Liverpool ended their last game of the season nicely with a 3-1 victory over Spurs. Torres opened the scoring in the first half with a header after brilliant work by Dirk Kuyt. Also in the first half, Pepe Reina had to brilliantly deny Spurs striker Defoe. Other than that, the first half of the game was very quiet.
Nearly midway through the second half, Kuyt played a 1-2 with Yossi Benayoun before his shot was deflected and hit the back of the Kop net. Spurs then grabbed one back thanks to Robbie Keane shooting past Pepe Reina at the Anfield Road end. But Liverpool’s 2 goal lead was later restored when Yossi Benayoun beat Gomes. Sami Hyypia came on for Gerrard and the Reds fans cheered him almost every time he touched the ball. Sami almost nearly scored a goal for himself, but it wasn’t to be.
Final Score: Liverpool 3-1 Tottenham
Relegated teams: West Brom, Middlesborough and Newcastle
