Rafa Hints at New Striker

Posted by

Rafa today while talking about the signing of Alberto Aquilani, has somehow hinted that he is looking for a supportive or second striker.

At the official unveiling of our new boy, Rafa took the time to talk about him: “For the final pass, Aquilani has more accuracy than Xabi. We tried very hard to keep Xabi, but he made it clear he wanted to go and we have to defend Liverpool. We are professionals. He had a fantastic year, but he wanted to go. We know he had some problems with his ankle, but the doctors analysed him and I am 100 per cent sure he will do well here.”

Then he took time to defend Liverpool’s 2 major signings as well as talking about Man City. “Man City are spending money; we had to bring in quality, and Johnson is a good player,” he said of ‘Pool’s new right-back. “We will now look for someone to help Torres and Gerrard. The idea of winning the Premier League every year is hard. City are doing really well because they are signing players with Premier League quality, so they will be a threat to us and Manchester United.”

Here are also some injury updates by Rafa himself, he also took the time to talk about former Reds, Keane and Crouch. “Gerrard is OK and Martin Skrtel is working hard. We have to be ready for the first game. Crouch and Keane are good players and good luck to them… but not when they play against us! Tottenham are a good team and Harry has done a good job. They, Aston Villa and City will be tough this season. We want to win things, but we have to start with Tottenham and three points.”

  1. I dont know who he will buy, or who i would want. If he does make one last purchase, i hope its another english boy, if not, i have enough faith in Voronin that he can score some valuable goals, and help create chances from kuyt and torres and gerrard.

  2. Good news on the injury – but we now only have 1 recognised “holding” midfielder – do we need a backup?

Aquilani, Kuyt, Voronin, Ngog, Babel can all play with Gerrard and Torres upfront!

  3. Is there any audio or video footage of Rafa actually saying “We will now look for someone to help Torres and Gerrard” ?

I’d like to see for myself if this is genuine or just some chinese whispers floating around the web.

There’s nothing on the official LFC site remotely resembling this at this time. A bit odd, no?

  4. Rafa did say that Gerrard and Torres need more help – I saw the interview on SkySports – but he was not definitely referring to a new signing – it could be more of a tactical statement – but at the same time he did not say that there were no more signings, or that he was looking for a position in particular! You know what Rafa is like!

  5. Miss read the one bit sorry.. I think we’ll probably see a new defender come in before we see a new striker
