The power of this anthem is still summed up for me in the Champions league final 2005. I was watching on tv, but my dad was lucky enough to be there. You would have expected the Milan fans to be singing from the rafters as the teams came out for the second half, but they were shocked into silenced by the Liverpool fans, singing the most powerful rendition of YNWA I have ever witnessed. More of a prayer than a song, all standing together, with hope in their hearts.
I can only imagine the effect it had the players as they came back out. The Milan players must have been shocked and even afraid. The Liverpool team probably expected the fans to have left or turned against them, but LFC fans never do that, we never let the team walk alone out onto the pitch alone, and we never will.
