How do we get rid of Hicks and Gillett?

Posted by

I am sure that all of us Reds can agree that Tom Hicks & George Gillett need to sell our club and move on. The frustration among us faithful supporters has become unbearable and the feeling of despair is starting to set in. The news-media does not help either when they keep mentioning Leeds in reference to the current financial state of our club.

There are interested parties who want to buy the club however from what I hear is that Hicks is being very greedy and is asking for compensation on future gate receipts on top of the price. So even if we get rid of them many Reds will be still dishing money out to Hicks & Gillett even after the club is sold.

I must applaud Spirit of Shankly (S.O.S.) for leading the charge in trying to put pressure on the duo to sell our club. Recently S.O.S. have even supported the ShareLiverpoolFC new proposal of offering lower share prices and have been vocal in organising protests usually  before home games.

I hate to sound pessimistic but all these protest marches and activities do not seem to be having any effect. Yes the media in the UK and Europe give the protests attention but here in the U.S. you do not even hear a whisper.  When Hicks and Gillett turn on the news or grab the local newspaper they will not hear or see anything about the protests. Of course I am sure they know about it but the protest is not the talk of the town, they are far removed from the whole situation. I can even bet money that they do not even watch any of the Liverpool games on TV.

What can we do?
Here are some ideas I have

  1. Protests are good but plan a real huge one the next time H&G are in town so they are really see it and feel it.
  2. Take the protest to Dallas and Vail, Colorado where they live. No I am not urging everyone to buy a plane ticket and head out here but any press releases should also be sent to newspapers in Dallas and Vail. Let us start a letter writing campaign to the local newspapers there.
  3. Again I strongly believe that is important that the communities where Gillett & Hicks live are aware on what is going on. How will George Gillett and Tom Hicks  feel if they saw a billboard with their faces on it on their drive to work?
  4. The Anti-Cohen campaign was effective here in the US because it was organised through our supporter’s clubs. Unfortunately we can use the supporters clubs for this kind of campaign. My idea is to have S.O.S. setup a US division to help coordinate action here.

Please post your feedback below, let us get as many ideas as we can. By yelling ‘Yanks Out’ we are not going to get anything done, we need to all start taking action for the love our club.

  1. the next time they land in England a big protest should be held at the airport they land. ” AND DO NOT LET THEM GET OUT OF THE AIRPORT” AND IF THEY DO GATHER INFRONT ANFIELD AND DO NOT LET THEM ENTER OUR HOME. THEY ARE NOT WELCOME! LIVERPOOL IS OUR RELIGION ANFIELD IS OUR HOME! HOW COME 2 STRANGERS ENTER OR HOME TO DESTROY IT! LETS WAKE UP AND ACT. YOU ARE NOT WELCOME SELL OUT AND LEAVE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. You never hear anything mentioned of them in Miami unless you hear them mentioned with their US owned teams

  3. Why was the club not sold 2 the DIC group in the first place thy were red fans and clearly in a better state to run our beloved lfc…i think it was the race issue perhaps?

  4. I totally agree Antoine. Taking the fight to the owners in America may prove to be the only really effective course of action. It’ll prove that we’re well organized and that the fans are actually completely united world wide in their total unmitigated objection to Hicks and Gillet’s continued rule over our beloved club.

The Texas Rangers are in the middle of a play off push and are usually a topic of American sport conversation on national TV, Radio and the Web. Why not protest Hicks and Gillet there? Hicks is not a very popular owner with the Rangers fans as he essentially does the same thing with his baseball club as he does with Liverpool; i.e. spend SOME money to be able to say KIND OF that he has spent money to help the team but never goes the extra yard to actually pony up enough dough to make the team a serious contender. I’m certain if Liverpool supporters gathered at the “Ballpark in Arlington” they’d find some baseball fans willing to help the cause. Who knows, maybe if it was a success the whole campaign would end up on SportsCenter and then who knows how far this could go. I think a nationally recognized public display would really change things. Protests like that just do not happen in American sports, even if a team’s owner(s) are brainless douche bags. So an organized protest on American soil in Hicks’ own sports back yard would be a huge deal.

I’m not sure something like that could be arranged (I live in Massachusetts and I feel like protesting at Red Sox games may lack the necessary punch) but it would sure be sweet if it was.

  5. brilliant glad to see liverpool goin right down the gutter keep up the good work!!!!! yehaaaaa! MUFC 4 life we may be in the same boat but we are still challenging 4th place is optimistic YSB!!!!!!!

  6. If busby could hear you, he was even not proud with you. Learn the history, busby was Liverpool’s captain before he laid the foundation of success for Fergie to build on. Yeah, MU always need a Liverpool knowledge to keep success as England no. 2 club, that’s why they signed Liverpool’s ex-wonderkid, M. Owen.
