VIDEO : The beach ball incident reminds me of another story

The incident with the beach ball today reminded me of another sports story where a fan caused his team to lose a game.

In 2003, the Chicago Cubs were close to going to the World Series for the first time since 1945 when one of their own fans stopped their own player from grabbing the ball. The name of the fan was Steve Bartman and the poor guys life after that was a misery with him having to go into hiding. Hopefully this kid will not suffer like Bartman did.

  1. I doubt the incident in the sunderland game can be compared to that. It’d be like stopping liverpool getting into the Champions League (or world series equivalent) for the first time for saving a liverpool goal. This kid today just threw a ball/balloon onto the pitch as plenty of other folk have done.
I really hope he doesn’t get berated for that, surely doesn’t deserve it.

  2. Thing is though, the Cubs were gonna lose that game anyway. We got screwed over because some stupid kid wanted to be funny.

  3. Forget the beach-ball incident. Liverpool really need a massive clear-out of average and non-committed players. Babel who thinks he’s Maradona; Voronin a complete waste of wages; Ngog more suited as a ballerina; Aurelio not suited for the pace of the English game; Dossena another Rafa poor signing. As much as I dislike the American owners, Gillett was right to say that it’s down to Rafa now. He failed to sign a striker and a ready replacement for Alonso. Instead he went for Johnson and another expensive Italian who spent almost his entire career on the operating table! Sunderland bought two supposedly LFC targets: Cana and Cattermole. Rafa overlooked them and they played a blinder today. End of the road for Rafa I’m afraid. Liverpool will never win the league with this team. And come Tuesday 23 hours we’ll know if champions league is over as well.

  4. For gods sake we’ve only played 9 games and we finished 2nd last season! Stick with rafa crap start i know but we’ve only lost 1 game more than chelsea and 2 more than the scum way to early to start talking about gettin rid of a manager that nearly got us there last season. Grow up!

  5. Just furrious.. ruined my whole day and probably the week… I know the kid never ment that to happen, but why pay to go see your team, away, front of the crowd, and throw a ball on to the pitch right in the way of play… Afraid to say it, but when he returns home, he will not be in one persons good books.. hope this doesnt all happen to him but, he indirectly stole our 3 points ..
