Chelsea’s Offensive Post

Posted by

Yesterday, Chelsea FC’s OFFICIAL website posted an article that was highly offensive to all Liverpool fans. In it, it was suggested that Liverpool fans got away with murder at Heysel, actually labelled us murderers, and blamed us for almost creating another Hillsborough in Athens! We are all used to fans of other teams chanting and singing about these horrific events in our past, but to have this behavior condoned by a club’s official website publishing such sickening accusations is taking it all too far.

No club can claim its’ fans are the only ones that do not sing offensive songs or target opposition players for personal abuse. We are no different. Look at the incidents with the ambulance after Alan Smith broke and dislocated his ankle at Anfield when blocking John Arne Riise’s shot a few years ago and the songs that followed. But, never has the offensive behavior of our minority been condoned through official channels by our club and up until this week, other clubs have not excused similar actions by their fans.

To their credit, Chelsea removed the offending article within minutes of me, among others, bringing it to their attention. However, I fear the damage has been done! Our relationship with the men from the King’s Road has become increasingly strained in recent years, and articles like this do nothing to diffuse any tension!

Hillsborough, Heysel, and Munich deserve to be remembered for those who perished and not used to goad opposition fans.

  1. Julian, in defence of CFC.

They were very helpful to us when we had the Anti-Steven Cohen campaign.

Although he (Cohen) is a Chelsea Fan, they disowned him and for that I will be forever grateful to them.

I also echo your sentiment about how quickly they removed the offending article.

  2. Couldn’t agree more with your sentiments – is the offending post available to view anywhere? I would like to see exactly what it said.
