Patience pays off, Ask Peter Crouch

Posted by

I am not going to go back too far into our illustrious history to make my point but the recent comments by some fans about David N’Gog disturb me.

When Peter Crouch first came to Liverpool he just could not score and had to wait until December to finally get his first goal thanks to a weird deflected shot against Wigan.

We supported Crouch through his 3 month drought and while England fans were booing him the Kop was singing his name.  Crouch later rewarded us as the goals kept coming and he even scored a couple of acrobatic beauties. As for England fans, only after he did that stupid robot dance did they and the news-mafia finally embrace him.

David N’Gog is 20 years old, we signed him for only £1.5 million and if you look at the Premier League you will see many strikers who have cost much more money and have scored almost the same amount of goals (if not less) per minute played than young David.

Remember these players use the internet and I am sure that they Google their names to see what the word out there is and for a young 20 year old it does not help his confidence to come across name calling from fans.

As always stand by your team and cheer the lads on.

  1. I agree completely, I think in 4 years (and another 15 to 20 lbs) Ngog will be a brilliant addition to the team.

  2. Antoine..whatever you say I buy that but not completely..Ya, we must support our players whole-heartedly thats true..and yes Ngog is not the worst player upfront in the premier league..
The sad part is had I been the gaffer I would have loaned him off and not Nemeth..However, thats far from reality now..

Sir, 1 more thing I belive I know why most supporters are spaeking in a disturbing tone about Ngog..I belive if not all at least some of them you will buy..

    1) David Ngog is young and promising but nowhere close to a talent like many would prefer..(especially the impatient ones..)

    2) Well, Ngog is a good lad on the pitch and it is good enough comparing him with Crouch who too was lean and lanky, but this has not been the best of seasons for Liverpool and although unjustified people expect a Torres from him..

    3) and finally , this point even strikes me at times..
do you really think that a team with reputation like Liverpool justifiably puts Ngog upfront ?? Its not his fault ..just that for a club like this its natural for people to expect more from a striker whoever it be (especially a lone striker)..and as for the money that you quote I honestly tell you very few people cares about that when they see a guy miss sitters..

Ngog really is told to do a hell more than what he is capable of at the moment.. and it pains to see that we cannot change the formation of play to ease his troubles or play him in bits..
Playing babel seems more justified..as he is more experienced and has proven himself more…Every player cannot play at 20 at a level that liverpool requires I belive thats exactly what fans are more used to seeing in recent days and seeing this youngster just thrust into to the game made a lot of people belive that Ngog could be as brilliant as balotelli or Aguero or the likes if not a finished product like Torres..thats causing the problems ..

Can’t help saying this , whether he deserves it or not whoever plays for Liverpool at whatever cost he comes to the club..with such huge fan following ..criticism for anything less than good performances is an inevitability..and sadly he has quite a few of that if you consider reviews all over the internet..(even by analysts)..

  3. Ya antoine , nemeth would have a better 1st team player than Ngog thats what i meant..judging by his pre-season friendlies..

  4. Ya antoine , nemeth would have a better 1st team player than Ngog thats what i meant..judging by his pre-season friendlies..
I may have been wrong..but i read a lot of analysts also say the same the time he was loaned out..I agree to them..

  5. Antoine. Having only Ngog as a back up striker is risky, in hindsight and knowing Torres’ prowess to injury, Nemeth should not have been loaned out. But we are not the gaffer are we. Ngog is critisized because people expect him to ‘replace’ Fernando. The young frenchman is doing a decent job and has pulled us through a couple of occasions, including last thursday. People have to understand, and possibly accept, that lads like Ngog, Lucas, Pacheco, Insua and…Nemeth, may well be part of Liverpool’s future!

  6. antoine, we were caught short on quality last winter when Rafa left us short on strikers when he sold Keane. It was sod’s law that torres would get injured soon after and low and behold what happened? he got injured.
Keane is a quality player and was showing signs of settling in but like clockwork he would either be huled off after an hour or be warming the bench.
We all new voronin was not good enough. kuyt, despite his admirable engine and team effort, is nor a striker or winger.
Ngog has improved but is not ready for a regular, lone striker role. He is sure to make the grade of a premiership striker but top 4 quality I am personally not sure of.
If we are serious about challenging for trophies on a regular basis then I think that most of us agree that fresh faces are needed and that Rafa has to spend carefully base don the likelihood of financial restrictions and on the basis of some of his previous purchases. Pacheco and Babel have shone recently but need more playing time and with the injuries that we have been dogged with this season they probably could and should have figured a lot more.

  7. Irwan, I agree mate. he did his best to miss today but the underside of the bar got in the way. Getting back on track about David ngog- the lad is working hard and it would be unfair for him to be compared to Torres. I just feel that Rafa has left us ‘exposed’ in the striker department and that it has put a lot of pressure on the lad. I think Babel has been under-used also. We need to utilize the squad in order to get this 4th spot. Stuff the Europa league, it’s the 4th place that we need in order to build for next season.

  8. Is there a way that Babel can play a game as a striker?
If Babel will stay or not, he must play more games (preferly now, when torres is out)…I don’t have nothing against N’gog (is a good player and great lad), but in my opinion as a STRIKER Ryan can do a better job.

PD. Actually i don’t believe this is gonna change this season, it’s just my opinion

  9. N’gog might be a good lad and a great potential, but thats exactly it, just potential at the moment. Nothing againts him but he’s really not ready to carry the weight expected of him. I do think Babel would be the better option as he just had a little bit more of a spark than N’Gog. N’Gog needs to be developed as a player not thrown in the deep end. He does need time on the pitch but he shouldn’t be starting over Babel in my mind.

Liverpool have a history of some of the greatest players in the world and I don’t think N’Gog fits the bill. He doesn’t score enough to be a lone striker for me.
