Manchester City 0 – Liverpool 0

Posted by

Well I must admit that was a boring game and was made more boring by Lee Mason Peter Walton  who dished out 6 yellow cards to our players.

The only bright spots of the game was the fact that we did not get any red cards and both Torres & Benayoun returned to action.

Martin Skrtel was the Liverpool man of the match as he was brilliant in ensuring the clean-sheet.

The best chance of the game was for City when Adebayor had a good shot on goal however Reina saved brilliantly. Yossi Benayoun could have easily claimed a penalty in the dying minutes of the game if he went to ground but did not.

We now dropped to the 6th position however we are only 1 point off both Spurs and City who play Everton & Chelsea respectively next week.

We host Blackburn on Sunday.

  1. We are playing the worst football I have ever seen since starting to go the match in the mid 70’s. We are kidding ourselves if we think we are capable of challenging for a major european or domestic honour playing the football that we are. A point served no real purpose today. We are starting to run out of games now and desperately need to get back to some sort of form. Please god, let us get a decent winger in the summer and someone to partner Torres (I’m sure he will still be here). I’ve tried to stay neutral with the spat about Rafa recently but I really think he has to start turning things around quickly as we are frankly quite awful. Even if we do qualify for next year’s CL on this kind of form we will likely get dumped out again in the group stages. Your (honest)opinions please.

I read the post-match report on BBc sport and Rafa’s comments were strange in areas. your thoughts to this pls.

  3. Antoine. The ref was Peter Walton and he is as good with yellow cards as Clint Eastwood was with his magnum.
The Reds showed tiredness today and the thursday effort certainly took it’s toll. We played another average game that with a bit of impetus could have been won.
I agree about Skrtel, but I would share the Man of The Match award with Mascherano.
Agger was edgy, Lucas, Gerrard and Kuiyt were outright tired. I had predicted a draw for this game, albeit 2-2. Nothing’s lost, we are still very much in the mix.
Let’s check out the situation at the end of the month!

  4. Hicks & Gillett had nothing to do with another limp display. They’ve gotta go, but all the other responsible parties need to step it up. Too convenient to continually blame the owners, as sh***y as they are.

  5. we really need a descent winger or a winger on both right and left flanks we cant rely on kuyt on the right as he is not a winger he was bought as a centre forward and i will praise him for his efforts playing on the wings but i would like to see more him as a centre forward rather than playing clumsily on the flanks..i give my credits to lucas and mascherano they worked their socks off the team looked tired even Maxi whom didnt play on thursday got tired on time only God knows the food they all had before playing the match some of the fresh legs looked tired as well..Benitez needs to drill his players on delivery of balls into the box from the wide area they shouldnt be delivering in the air they should try low curved delivery of balls that would cause opposition panic

  6. Guys, we had an average game and a draw at Eastlands is not the end of the world. The Reds had a game on thursday and Man City played two days earlier at Stoke. We were playing a team that has spent around Stg 200 million since last June, so what’s all the hype about. We have another away game to Urzeceni on thursday coming and then Blackburn at home on sunday. Man City play away to Chelsea, Villa are away to Hull, and Spurs host in form Everton.
No one said it was going to be easy. Man City, Villa and Spurs want that coveted 4th spot just as bad as we do. The Reds won’t give up but everyone is dropping points including Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal.
It’s a weird season really, but the Reds are still in the reckoning.

  7. I agree with Django. Owners need to do us all a favor and work out an exit strategy that doesn’t bury us for a decade, but let’s get real. Our players are better individually than we are as a side. We do not work well together. Something isn’t clicking right and hasn’t all year frankly. That puts the blame squarely on the shoulders of Rafa but I trust and support him in general. Yes we could use a winger with pace and a partner for a healthy Torres, but somebody that’s in the team now needs to provide some leadership and a spark for us to rally around to finish strong and salvage an off year before it turns into two or more. Where will it come from? Could Pacheco prove worth a gamble?

  8. Very boring day on the pitch…!! The results now put the battle to stop any of our top four rivals away from any hurdle that we can enforce..since now we have played all the matches against them..But here’s hoping Chelsea and everton all the luck ..in beating City and tots resp…
The EPL keeps on goin in its strange ways this season..!!

  9. éire, I feel that the reff sides with the media and want’s his name in the papers again. 6 cards is a fine from the FA yes?
