Liverpool FC & Everton Foes Turned Friends ? Time To Redine Foes?

More Liverpool fc fans will be rooting for Everton this season from
now on than in the recent past. The reason being a little different
than mutual friendship .A lot of water has passed since the beginning
of the much talked about rivalry of the Merseyside giants Liverpool fc
and Everton..but glancing to what has been the course of events in the
English Premier league this season 2009-10, a lot has happened (and
can happen) to the contrary….
So here’s a preview of a lot of things that can come up ..and is a top
four berth as elusive for Liverpool given the sequence in which things
are unfolding?? Well, I don’t think so.. Here’s Why ?
There will not be many a RED fan who would completely agree that much
of Liverpool fc’s below par performances cannot be attributed to the
invisible yet decisive “LUCK” factor..with the ever-so bizarre beach
ball incident, too many 90′ goals and last but not the least untimely
injuries to key players..All this meant Liverpool fc’s title challenge
and hopes for silverwares have been trimmed to a race for top 4 and
The Europa Cup (after a long time!)
However, the best thing about Luck is that it changes..and are we
seeing the signs as yet?..Well may be..
Everton has been considered one of the most hated rivals of the REDs
ever since their inception, however in this current season a lot can
happen for each of the Merseyside giants in a way that will do each
other more favor than loss..
Liverpool would be more on the recieving side of favors if rivals
Everton were to continue their currently “HOT” form against
Liverpool’s much threatened fourth place contenders in the form of
Spurs, Aston villa and Man city ..Liverpool having finished their
campaign run against these teams, will undoubtedly hope that not only
Everton but the entire gang of lower ranked teams in the league upset
the foresaid teams to draws and defeats..
However, Everton fc being in a brilliant form after a defeat at
Goodison Park to the REDs seem most likely to go even stronger for the
rest of the campaign and it will not be a surprise if they can pull
off victories against all of Spurs, Villa & Man city..

Liverpool fc however having pulled off a double against Everton, have
a run of games which include only Manchester united and Chesea games
as Big games coming up.. With players missing in the former leg
against both these teams liverpool has a chance to better them this
time round and even draws there sounds a good outcome..In this aspect
all of the other three contenders for the fouth spot have to face not
only the Top 3 teams but also the likes of Everton and a few others
who have shown good fighting spirit…
That is not to say that Liverpool’s task is a cake-walk but just that
Liverpool face much less tight matches..and in winning most of them
can ease out whatever minor threat Everton may have of securing a
Europa spot next season..
With a difference of just seven points some RED fans may still be wary
of the notion that what if this purple patch for Everton continue too
long for their comfort and we have a case similar to the last time
that Liverpool lost out on a top four..It was Everton who piped them
then..To this idea I just have this to say that no doubt Everton
having beaten both the title contenders (which nobody expected them to
..even after the display at anfiled which was gruesome to say the
least) are playing Top quality football which is expected from a Top
side in EPL , however if Liverpool now suffer futher defeats so
demoralising to give away their seven point advantage or so ..then
Liverpool probably don’t deserve a fourth point this season whatever
be the reason..
As foresaid as much as destiny would seem to make two apparent
long-term rivals act as indirect allies to each other ..It is upto the
individual clubs performance mainly which will make the BIG difference
and seal their fate..but after all is said we still do realise that
this time round EPL has been much much tougher and a few favours like
i mentioned would not at all be unwelcome …if it serves the
purpose..

Having already beaten Manchester city this year ..Everton has already
done Liverpool’s hopes a favor , not to mention their ownselves too..
As it turns out that most of those, now apparently critical matches for
Liverpool to watch !!(involving Everton vs foresaid teams) are away
from Goodison Park so it will take Everton some doing..and the
parting of Landon Donovan by March also doesn’t sound very
good..Everton however should still play well if their injury crisis
and low confidence die out as it currently should seem likely..

As goes an Old Adage “The enemy of your enemy is your friend”….So
shouldn’t the REDs feel the same..??????

  1. I beleive this year it’s the bitters next year it will be some other team knocking points off our competitors.

  2. Interesting piece, no offence, mate, but I take it you don’t live in Liverpool? Reason i ask is, the rivallry is worse now than it ever has been. Evertonians would rather lose three points and a CL spot if it meant Liverpool would suffer in any way.

The constant spite and bitterness from evertonians has got worse. Even singing songs about Hillsborough, chanting murderers to us every game. The bitter blues hate us with a passion, and they’ll always be seen as foes. You’ll never see the old days of reds and blues mixing together at the game.

Sometimes you have to live and experience it with your own eyes to see the rivallry is worse now than it ever has been. I even know reds who hate everton more than the mancs these days.

  3. True, very true mate I love the Reds, but don’t quite live in Liverpool ..so you are a better judge..
But fellas, don’t go by the Heading …its just catchy..however in case I haven’t made myself clear ..I just want to say that both teams in an effort to overcome their opponents might just unintentionally do the favors to each other..Everton may have played well lately but you never know in football..they may just fall apart if they do as you say :
“Evertonians would rather lose three points and a CL spot if it meant Liverpool would suffer in any way.”
Such methods will be unfair ..and I pray dooms their season were they to resort to such playing-up..

  4. I’ve always thought of the Reds/Blues relationship like that of the baseball Chicago Cubs and White Sox.

White Sox fans /hate/ the Cubs. A true White Sox fan doesn’t get “the full three points” unless the Sox win AND the Cubs lose.

Cubs fans don’t care about the White Sox unless we are playing them. We’ll root for them in the rare cases they can help us, but that’s it. Otherwise we just ignore them.

Liverpool is the big club. Ignore Everton unless we are playing them. Cheer them when the result can help us. Otherwise forget them… they are too small for our contempt.

(I should add that sort of condescending attitude /really/ pisses Sox fans off. I’m sure it will work on Toffees too.)

  5. Kaustav, totally see what you mean about both teams unintentionally doing favours for the other. When it comes to Everton vs the mancs or Chelski, personally, I’d rather see the manc or cockneys win, as realistically, we’ve no chance of catching them up, so I’d rather everton missed out on the points, as that’s just another team to put us under pressure.

Liverpool do this every season though. They play awful, never looks like it’s getting better, then pull it of at the end. This club has a lot to answer for, for my blod pressure!
