A good day of football!

Out of 5 matches of direct or indirect interest to us, I feel that three have been great results while the remaining two were….predicable!

Let’s start from what interests us directly, that is, our direct rivals for 4th spot. A few days ago I had thrown in the gauntlet and gave my predictions about how the Reds will take 4th spot. In those predictions I had said that Spurs would draw at Sunderland, while Villa and Man City would win at Bolton and Burnley respectively. I got the last two spot on but the Spurs result was even better for us because they were totally outclassed by Sunderland and left the Stadium of Light without points. I saw the Sunderland vs. Spurs game and feel that Lee Mason is the worse PL ref….as bad as Rob Styles used to be!

Keep in mind Spurs have Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd up next while Man City have Birmingham, Man Utd, Arsenal and Spurs on their fixtures list. Villa were level with us with two games in hand. Now they are level with the same games played and we have a much better goal difference.

As for tomorrow’s game at St.Andrew’s, I’ve predicted a draw. The pitch is not the best playing surface in the PL and Alex McLeish’s side is very organized. With Johnson and Dann at the back I think they have the best emerging centre-half pairing in the PL. We do have the quality to beat them of course, but we saw what a hard time they gave Arsenal a week or so ago. Good Luck Reds!

As for the indirect results of interest, it was a pleasure to see Man Utd loose to Chelsea. It was also a relief to see Arsenal squeeze through over Wolves to come within one point of Man Utd and heap more pressure on them. PL to Chelsea or Arsenal please……!!!

Keep the faith….!

  1. 4th place and as long as not United.

‘Even though’ i’ll be 100% behind the team when Chelsea coming to Anfield next month, I am hoping for this scenario:

    – Chelsea (or Arsenal, but likely it’s Chelsea), is holding 3 or 4 pts lead over United.
    – We’ll play in UEFA Europa League final on 12th of May (if we beat Benfica and we won the semifinal, with the 2nd leg played on April 29th).
    – We’re level with Man City points

    That’s going to be interesting

  2. Would you be willing to sacrifice fourth place to ensure that the Scum ManURe don’t win the title and break our record?

Because that’s what it well may come down to when we play Chelsea. After that match, the remaining matches for Chelsea and ManUre after that match are more all less 3 points int he bag for both teams, so essentially Liverpool may be the decider as to where the title goes.

Most fans will probably understand, and likely cheer for a Liverpool loss to Chelsea then, if we are already out of the race for 4th by then just to ensure that Chelsea win and Red-Nose get’s scuppered once again in his bid to “knock us off our perch”.

But what if Liverpool are still in with a chance then with the 3 points potentially giving us CL football next Season, or giving Chelsea the title and ensuring that we remain the most successful club in England (tied with ManURe, but still) domestically? Do you hope Benitez picks a weak team and secretly root for a Chelski win? Especially if it improves the possibility that next Season we come back focused solely on the Premiership with the possibility of regaining the sole title of most successful club and get back on our “perch”, so to speak.

Me I root for CHelsea only because each year ManUre’s window of glory years closes more, and we get more of an opportunity to get back to glory days. And as a bonus Red-Nose never gets the opportunity to lord it over us when he eventually retires.

    What say you?

  3. I will probably get a lot of flack for this but I have been supporting the Reds since I started to understand something about this game and I say I prefer we loose 4th spot to make sure Man Utd do not win the PL, whatever the consequences may be. Liverpool is a big Club and no-one is bigger than the Club. Having said that, Man Utd still have to play Man City and Spurs so I feel they too will drop a point or two. With some luck or something close to a miracle, we will clinch 4th spot just the same and Man Utd will not win the title.

  4. Guys, you’re not seeing the bigger picture here…
4th is everything. If we don’t get it, we could lose Stevie and Nando and not be able to attract top quality players and never get back to the top table.
Believe me, the thought of the scum getting 19 makes me sick to my stomach BUT, records are there to be broken. So if we can get 4th we’ve a better chance of clawing our way back to the top and onto OUR perch….

    YNWA.
    Nick.

  5. I am a Liverpool fan first and a ManUre hater second so of course I want a Liverpool victory when we play Chelski. We should win for ourselves instead of doing others a favour. It’s just not the Liverpool way. Of course ideally, I want us to clinch 4th spot and ManUre to lose the title.

Anyway what if at the end of the season, ManUre did indeed lose the title and crash out of the Champs League while we win the Europa and clinch 4th spot? Will you guys consider it a good season then?

  6. Funny how it’s only the OOTs that hate united so much always makes me laugh! I don’t particularly care if we get 4th it’s not the be all and end all, gives us much more time to concentrate on our league form and lower these ridiculous expectations that have been put on the club in recent years. Why not just enjoy watching us get to the Europa final and hopefully makig a dint in the premiership while we are doing it

  7. Well , hope the other predictions of yours come true or even better..and we get Champions League Football next year..

  8. Ironically in 2 weeks time Man City play United and for the sake of 4th place we want United to win that one.

It is a bitter pill to swallow but as much as I don’t want them to win 19 I love Liverpool more than I hate them.

  9. Antoine. A draw in the Manchester derby could be enough for us. With an average of 18 points left to be taken between the four teams aspiring for 4th, there are still points to loose.
What we really have to do with win our games. I am sure the Reds will not concede to Chelsea merely to make sure Man Utd don’t win the PL.
