An open letter to Kenny Dalglish

Posted by

Dear Kenny:

I understand that you have been asked to help find a new manager to replace Rafa Benitez at Liverpool, many feel that you are the most qualified person for the job. As you know football has changed a lot since you were a manager and unfortunately the modern fans and pundits are very impatient and tend to want results right away. People tend to ignore the bigger picture and simply focus on the manager who can only do so much based on the resources provided to him.

As a kid you were my idol, your poster used to hang above my bed, I can still hear “Dalglish, Rush, Goal…” echo after all these years. When I was a teenager you were the manager that brought the famous double and then consoled the grieving families of the Hillsborough disaster.

Here is my pledge to you:
If you are asked to take over as manager and should you accept please know that you have my full support, no matter what happens. Liverpool F.C. is not the same club it used to be, should you become the next gaffer you will have to have to deal with two greedy owners who only care about squeezing every penny out of our beloved club.

You were a Legend, You are a Legend and You will always be a Legend.

You’ll Never Walk Alone

  1. I’d like to say, good letter and that… But are you sure he will be wanting to read people’s letters when he is kind of in the middle of trying to find us a manager. I do hope he reads it, because it may encourage him. And i’d like to see either Kenny Daglish, because it will not cost us any compansation. I do hope for Guus Hiddink aswell. But he may cost quite alot of money. YNWA !

  2. Me too Anthoine. Liverpool’s my club for better or worse. We WILL rise again, we WILL rebuild, we WILL rule. We are The Reds and no one ever will. YN(Ever)WA(Ever)!

  3. i have just got hold of some info, and this is clear, true information that i will put on here just once.

My uncle is a vp at an investment firm in uae, and i have and do know that this is true.

There are four parties interested in LFC and they have put bids on the table of well over 450million uk pounds sterling and the yanks are not interested, onlly at 750 million pounds,,,, can you fucking take this crap from these con men,,,,

this is true info and there is big interest in our foootball club but they will just not budge….. now for all you anti rafa fans and all you armchair fans,, what do you want to do sit back and watch this club float down the drain?

  4. To Liam,
Well, it is a short letter :-), very concise and well put together. Plus, Kenny always had time for fans, I doubt he’ll ignore the letter.

  5. @Paulie,

What are you on about, someone with more experience? You do know who he is talking about. One of the most experienced mangagers out there, ok he has not been in the game for a while, but you just don’t loose all that knowledge, experience. We need stability, someone who knows the club, O’neill is not that good of a manager, Hiddink will cost us. At the beginning of the new season we are going to have an average team, already been stated that there is now transfer budget, so any new manager has to work with what we have, give kenny a go, you never know Paulie, he may just surprise you YNWA…

  6. Your letter is great, and as a staunch Liverpool Supporter (45 years) living in South Africa, I would support Kenny as our new Manager, but should Guus Hiddink be chosen, I will be just as supportive. I look forwrd to an exciting 2010/2011 season and HOPE that the greedy yanks manage to sell our beloved Liverpool to a TRUE LIVERPOOL PERSON/COMPANY, sooner, rather than later. I cannot wait to see the back of those b…….

  7. The last person King Kenny helped to appoint as manager was John Barnes. I hope his judgment has improved.

I would also say to Kenny please don’t make us boring the way you did with Blackburn and Newcastle, other than that here’s to the future. Y.N.W.A.

  8. I think we are getting a bit carried away here. Kenny hasnt managed us in 20 years and hasnt managed a club (other than our academy) in 10 years.
Whilst i have the utmost respect for the man, in my opinion it would be a huge mistake to have him as a long term manager. I dont think he wants it anyway.

    Mark

  9. my only concern is the yanks will sell off our top players to ensure they get the maximum money they can from our club….they have bled us dry and now removed a man who had passion for our club …sadly they do not share his passion cos if they did they would of given him the funds to improve the squad….The day they said they had contacted Klinsman was the day i knew Rafa’s days where numbered. he did well last year to spite their efforts …but due to injuries..players moaning and causing disruptions… etc..Rafa fell into their trap and he is now gone.
As a life long supporter i will get behind my team and support who ever comes…THATS THE LIVERPOOL WAY

  10. I think Kenny would be an excellent choice to take over. With a budget likely to be slashed with regards to transfers, we need someone who can really inspire the players and get them playing for him. Kenny could do this I believe. The game has certainly changed, but I’ve no doubt he’s always kept close to the game and he knows his stuff. The club has also changed but someone like him with a link to our past can do a little something to restore the sole of the club.

  11. KING KENNY YOU HAVE FULL SUPPORT . BRING THE GLORIOUS YEARS BACK TO OUR CLUB EVEN IT TAKES TIME FOR REBUILDING AROUND I HOPE ENGLISH PLAYERS AND WITH OUR STARS . ONLY LEGEND CAN DO THAT AND THAT IS YOU.

  12. Shouldnt/couldnt we have written to him with a list of candidates we would like to take over?
I really feel after everything that has gone on, the least the club should do is listen to our view. Maybe even give us a list to vote on and they then go for whoever gets the majority vote, obviously working down the list if one isnt available or interested

Top of my list in order of preference is
    Rijkaard
    Redknapp (Harry obviously)
    Hodgson

I will be really pleased with anyone of these and think out of everyone we have been linked with, they are the best candidates

  13. I was browsing today and saw Ottmar Hitzfeld suggested and I must admit, I neva thought of him but his credentials do warrant it. With the club in the state it’s in he could bring us back to glory. worth a thought.

  14. We can’t afford top players at the moment so why would it be any different with a manager and the salaries they command.

Current runners and riders in the betting.

    O Neill M 2/1 – too expensive
    Dalglish K 2/1 – probably dirt cheap
Hodgson R 3/1 – probably top of our price range
    Hiddink G 7/1 – too expensive
    Klinsmann J 8/1 – too expensive
    Hughes M 12/1 – too expensive
    Pellegrini M 12/1 – too expensive
Oswaldo de Oliveira 16/1 – Maybe, J-League would be cheap rates
    Schuster B 20/1 – too expensive
McLeish A 20/1 – probably top of our price range
    Rijkaard F 20/1 – too expensive
    Magath F 20/1 – too expensive
    Lippi M 25/1 – too expensive
    Blanc L 25/1 – too expensive
Bilic S 25/1 – maybe in our range
Houllier, G 25/1 – Lyon pay well but he may take a cut to come back

I don’t think we can afford top notch salaries.

From the above list that leaves us with

    Dalglish
    Hodgson
    Oswaldo de Oliveira
    McLeish
    Bilic
    Houllier

Any of those tickle your fancy. No, me neither.

  15. People really do seem to believe we will improve next season. I just can’t see us doing better than 7th, and I am worried that we may be seeing even everton finish higher next year.
My first choice would be pelligrini, is proven in a top league without money, and he managed to break Madrids goal and points club record lastyear so may even bring his exciting style to liverpool. I don’t want redknapp. Every club he’s managed he has managed to destroy!

  16. Looking at the ones left over from Left Leg of Babel’s list:

Dalglish – I’d take him in some kind of interim basis until club was sold.
Hodgson – I like him a lot and would consider it.
Oswaldo de Oliveira – No thanks
McLeish – He’s done well, he might be worth a shot but I’m not overwhelmed.
    Bilic – No
Houllier – Good lord no. The very idea of him being just 25/1 makes me shudder.

  17. Good news if this happen but believe me new owner is more important to keep our star player and buy new good player this summer…No manager will accept to coach liverpool if don’t get support from owner…

  18. Kenny is younger than guus, roy, blackburn we have kenny look what he did there what did hodgson do jack sh@# so come on kenny dalglish onlyman i want in the seat can you see stevie g or torres refusing a chance to work with the king no way fergie will be shiting himself if we go on a run so come on and sing ohhhhh kennnnny ooooohhhhh kennnnny id walk a million miles from one ov those goals from keeennnnny sold rush bought aldo, barnesy and beardo houghton and mcmahon don’t even debate it

  19. No offence mate but you are most definitely out of line!

I welcome the day that our supporters finally wake up out of their slumber and quit clinging to our history.

It’s fair to say that we can learn from the past but idiotically asking for Dalglish to retake the Anfield hotset is wrong.

Just stick to supporting and leave the thinking to the more knowledgeable, better informed and more forward thinking fans.

    Jeez

    1. Lee I am confused by your comment, I am not asking Kenny to take the position but rather telling him that I will support him whatever he decides to do.

  20. No mention of Sven there.Judging from the last article I read and considering his experience and reported lifelong support of our club, you’d think he’d warrant a mention should King Kenny not take up the post.
    …Just a thought.

  21. Bring back the King and you bring back the title. I pledge for the return of the King – Kenny Dalglish

  22. Antoine – it’s a nice letter but it’s not in the interests of the club.

    1. Dalglish should not take charge
    and
    2. I will not support him if he brings in Roy ‘one-season wonder’ Hodgson, Mark Hughes, Harry Redknapp, Alex McLeish, Sven or any non english speaking manager to the club.

It’s up to Kenny to pick out the best managers – none of those rumoures (listed above) are good enough for Liverpool.

    1. Lee remember that although he is in charge of finding the manager it is not his choice at the end, I am sure he was given a budget and knowing how cheap Hicks & Gillett that is pretty much the choice available.

  23. please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please COME BACK KING KENNY WE NEED YOU

  24. JEEZ,

NO MANAGER HAS EVER BEEN AS SUCCESSFUL FOR OUR CLUB – WE ARE SICK OF FOREIGN MANAGERS – BRING BACK SOMEONE WHO FULLY UNDERSTANDS THE COMMITMENT OF THE KOP AND SOMEONE WHO DESERVES & DEMANDS RESPECT FROM OUR PLAYERS – HE IS A LEGEND & WE SHOULD THINK OURSELVES LUCKY THAT HE IS EVEN CONSIDERING COMING BACK – THERE IS NO1 OUT THERE BETTER FOR LFC NOT O’NEIL NOT SVEN NOT NO1
