This Yank is Supporting England

Posted by

If it was not for Tom Hicks and George Gillett many in Liverpool would not be bothering with today’s World Cup game between England and the U.S.A.

Scousers are not the kind who usually get excited about the England team, but for this game things will be different. Our owners are hated by Liverpool Supporters so much that they have made the United States look bad, as an American that is painful. The blue noses are sure to capitalise on the situation and will support the U.S. to irritate the Reds. Also to note that the Evertonians have former on-loan player Landon Donovan and U.S. International Tim Howard that they idolised.  I will be supporting England in the game and will probably called a ‘Benedict Arnold’ (US Revolutionary war figure who betrayed the U.S. by conspiring with the U.K.) by my fellow Yanks but I am ok with that. I am supporting England not because of Hicks and Gillett but because of Stevie G., Jamie Carragher and Glen Johnson.

It is really unfortunate that the U.S. Reputation has to be tarnished by Tom Hicks and George Gillett who quite frankly do not give a living F**k about footie. The game has been gaining momentum in the United States and having lived here since 1992 this World Cup is set to be the most watched footie event ever in America. Martin Tyler will be commentating the games for ESPN in the U.S.A. and I am sure he will be mentioning the anti-H&G and anti-Glazer sentiments during the games. This will be a good thing, if we can get a few Anti-H&G banners on T.V. it would help our cause even more.

Who knows, in a few years I might end up supporting the U.S. if they play England and we have a few American players in the L.F.C. squad. With the sport gains popularity in the United States and given that both of contending managers for the L.F.C. position have huge respect and ties with the U.S. this might be sooner than we think. Remember that Hodgson’s hero last season was Clint Dempsey and that King Kenny has his son Paul who manages a team on this side of the pond.

Whoever is at the game please wave those anti-Hicks and Gillett banners so the millions can see them and to all the rest please don’t burn any flags.

Y.N.W.A.
May the best team (England) win.

  1. Antoine, I like that our posts share a similar theme. And, obviously, you won’t hear any name calling from me on this issue.

  2. Please explain how waving anti-Hicks and Gillett banners will help our cause? That’s like the Liverpool fans on twitter who think by typing #hicksgillettout it will force them out. Something needs to be done that is constructive and active – not just internet moaning, banner waving and flag burning.

Fans of other clubs are laughing at our efforts to overthrow our owners.

  3. I’m From Liverpool but I’ll be Cheering England on and Many Nevertonians i Know are Supporting England Not the Yanks!

and We do Get All Excited about England lol,

Also most of us Dislike Americans Regardless (No Offence) But the H+G <---[Hate These Two Chuckle Brothers] have made us Dislike the Yanks even More!! [I do Not Hate all Americans i dislike them tho i have few yank mates who are cool] Back to Not Hating C'Mon England C'Mon England C'Mon England C'Mon England Y.N.W.A

  4. What I’m saying is that Anti-H&G banners, flag burnings, posts like this, Twitter messages etc don’t do anything to help get our horrible owners out.

If you honestly think H&G will see these things and say “oh, they’re right, let’s sell up” then… well no. It doesn’t work like that. If (and hopefully when) they sell, it will be a financial decision and nothing to do with the fans.

Hate to say it but Utd fans have been much better organised in their protests… they actually got experts in finance, marketing etc to form their anti-owner campaigns.

    1. El Nino, we have to keep getting the word out. Every single tweet, every single banner and every single scream helps. As far as the Utd fans are concerned that is media talk. We have already done more than them at least H&G have announced their desire to sell, Glazer hasn’t.

  5. I don’t believe Antoine mentioned not loving the USA. In the context of this conversation, the US is actually #14.

  6. WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE IS WHAT CRYSTAL PALACE DID, PLAN A BIG PROTEST OUTSIDE THE RBS HEAD QUARTERS, CRYSTAL PALACE PROTESTED OUTSIDE LLOYDS AND IT WORKED. WE NEED TO GO TO RBS IN OUR THOUSANDS AND SHOW RBS WE WANT THEM 2 YANKS OUT AND WE WANT THEM TO MAKE THEM LEAVE OUR CLUB OR MAKE THE MLOWER THE ASKING PRICE.

IM FED UP OF BANNERS AND POSTERS ANS PETITIONS WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING BIG, AND MORE OF OUR BIG PLAYERS NEED TO SPEAK OUT MORE, I HOPE RAFA COMES OUT AND TELLS US WHATS REALLY GOING ON BEHIND THE SCENES.

  7. An entitled comment Antoine/John but come on you have to give support to your national team. It is only fitting methinks! Let it be a good and great game for all and I , as a scouser will root for England. This is world cup football and must be detached from club politics.

  8. To say English Liverpool fan’s do not usually support their country in the world Cup is ridiculous, during the domestic season club comes before country, but now it’s ended it’s different, we haven’t got important league or cup games coming up. You also go on to say that they only reason that they are interested in the opener against the yanks is because of the nationality of the clubs owners which is crazy. I have been looking forward to the world cup for ages, I always do and I couldn’t give a toss if the owners are American, I would want England to do win this game regardless. And to say that English Evertonians will support the USA over their own country because Liverpool’s owners are yanks, is an incredibly stupid thing to say. I know many Everton fans and they all want England to suceed as much as I do, I think you have been in America too long!

This game has nothing to do with Liverpool, Hicks or Gillett and frankly your comments are nieve an ilfounded.

  9. Did Martin Tyler mention Hicks & Gillette last night? I doubt it. And were their any anti Hicks & Gillett banners on display in the croud? I didn’t notice any. It was England vs USA not SOS vs Hicks & Gillett.

  10. I do have positive things to say, however it’s a shame that there are so many non-sensical articles published without any facts or knowledge to back them up, someone has to put the record straight.

  11. You honestly don’t think H&G have annonced plans to sell beause of fan pressure do you?! It comes down to money and money only with these pricks. They’ve realised that LFC won’t make them money, so they’re looking to move on.

The only thing some of the protesting – especially the personal attacks on H&G and their country – has done is put off potential investors.

Please explain how sending a tweet helps our cause. It really doesn’t.
