Internal Improvements

We are now a week into Roy Hodgson’s reign as Liverpool manager and already the rumour mill is going wild with supposed transfer ins and outs. There has been uproar by Liverpool fans and the media of the measly £15 million budget which Hodgson has been given to completely change the fortunes of a team which desperately needs an overhaul. We do however have a manager who has shown at Fulham that he can use a budget wisely and he can turn a below average player into a star. Bobby Zamora, John Pantsil, Dickson Etuhu, Zoltan Gera and Damien Duff are all players who have had their careers revived by Roy Hodgson at Fulham. They were all players who were surplus to requirements at their clubs but Roy Hodgson gave them another chance and they repaid him for it.

At Liverpool we have a number of players who many fans feel should be surplus to requirements. Many of them have not shone as brightly as they should have and they should simply be sold for a cut price and replaced. I feel though with Roy Hodgson we have a manager who will give many of the so called “Dead Weight” another chance to prove that they were brought to the club for a reason

Lucas

When considering this subject the first player I think of is Lucas, at times last season we saw a different Lucas, one who wasn’t afraid to go forward and actually play a forward pass, we saw this style of play all to briefly and I hope Roy will try to make Lucas slightly more attack mind while also keeping the main component of his game which is of course tackling.

Alberto Aquilani

Although we didn’t see much of Alberto last season I feel he will benefit from a more attack minded tactical approach and Hodgson and this will hopefully help him to flourish.

Emiliano Insua

With quite a frustrating season put behind him for the young left back in which he was thrown in as our 1st choice left back, I feel he will improve next season hopefully as a 2nd choice left back. This is the number one priority for a purchase in my opinion just in front of cover for Torres

Ryan Babel

Babel hasn’t lived up to his very large potential since moving from Ajax in 2007 but at still only 23 I Roy should give him at least another year in the team to prove himself. Obviously in his homeland he is still thought of as a talent having been present in the Holland squad for the World Cup. Last season I feel he should have been used as striker cover for Torres more as he showed at Ajax that he is not just a fast winger but also a decent Centre Forward

David N’Gog

The same as Insua, N’Gog was thrown into the first team as cover for Torres when I don’t think he was ready for such an important role. I feel his game would improve if he continued to receive first team football, however I don’t think we are in the position to give it to him. With reported interest from West Brom I feel it would be a wise move to send N’Gog there for a loan spell.

Albert Riera

Details are still a bit sketchy on Riera’s situation. He seemed to be definitely on his way out of Liverpool a couple of months ago, but maybe the change in management would see a u turn for his supposed transfer away from the club

Youth

With many Decent youth players at the club I just hope Roy will give them a chance to show their ability and hopefully become first team regulars in the future. Jonjo Shelvey is highly rated as one of the country’s best young players and to be honest I feel he will benefit more from Roy as the manager than Rafa, as I doubt he would have been given much pitch time by Rafa in this coming season. I also hope to see more of Krisztian Nemeth who played well in last years pre-season but was shipped off to AEK Athens on loan. Then there others who we received small glimpses of last season but never got a proper look at, such as Dani Pacheco, Martin Kelly, Stephen Darby and even Jack Robinson who became our youngest ever player on the last day of the season against Hull

I am excited and apprehensive about the changes which will take place at Anfield over the coming months. With our new manager I feel we have a man with some of the best man management skills in the world. I feel it is these qualities which will help make sure Gerrard and Torres stay and he will be able to give the “Fringe Players” a new Self Belief so that they can play a more significant role in our successes next season.

  1. Where are you getting that £15million figure from…? We’ll be lucky just to get the money from player sales.

    *Hicks and Gilett Out*

  2. I mean no offence, but you have a very different view of Roy Hodgson to the one’s painted by those who have studied him over the years.

    1. He’s not an attack minded coach.
    2. He’s got a poor record of promoting youth players.

Also, Riera should pack his bags and leave. I can’t imagine the other players want him around after what he said, whether Hodgson likes him or not.

Ngog, should definitely not go out on loan. He has proven consistently to be the best back-up choice to Torres and weighs in with a decent share of goals. Liverpool can ill afford to loan out squad players as useful as him, especially when we’re so short up front.

  3. I agree that we definitely need a new left back, though still keep Insua on as he is a good prospect for the future. Hope we concentrate on the youth squad too
