  1. I am Sorry Antoine ..but signing Crouchie would be ridiculous ..How many 29+ do we need in our squad ?? I think he is decent player but if Torres is not available ..Crouch is really not much above N’gog..!!
Paying 10m GBP for a 29 year old player who is not good enough for his present club would be stupidty!! We could get Ruiz or some other better players surely for that sum..!!
and Why is the club taking ages to Sell Mascherano ?? We can get some useful cash from there and bring in a 15-20m striker easily !!
If Balotelli has a problem with the Man City Switch may be a 10m + Balotelli for Masch would be a much better deal..!!
May be even Pacheco can be given a break..he may be 5.7ft in height, but then Aguero is 5.75 too!!

SOrry Mate..I love the club too but Crouch would not be awesome for me ..it would be ridiculous..!!

  2. Kaustav, according to my calculation we need at least 1 more English player for the Home Grown quotas.

Our Academy is full of great young talent, quite honestly I would rather bring in a couple of more experienced (older) players to hold down the fort until the youngsters come of age.

  3. Is it just me or are many LFC fans just focusing on getting H&G out? The fact that someone said ‘Once we get the Yanks out’ worries me. It is important to get the gruesome twosome out but we need to focus on getting the right owners in. I would rather someone with the budget of Spurs but the interests of the club at heart, rather than the wallet of Man City’s owners but the attitude of H&G.

As regards the Crouchie story, I am torn. I admit, he would be a good back-up/partner for Torres, and at 10mil he seems a good purchase but he left on wage grounds, if I am not mistaken, which means we would need to up the wages he was recieving in the first place. But at the same time, what age will he be when the Home Grown Rules come into effect??

  4. Home Grown Rules or not, when Houllier was around we had a strong french speaking contingent, same with spanish lads when Rafa was at the helm. Roy is in charge now and it is only right for an english team of Liverpool’s calibre to have the best of british talent.
I think Crouch is not a bad solution, but I am a bit weary at spending Stg 10 million on a ‘back-up’ striker. I would personally go for someone that may progress with Torres in the coming years to form a formidable and deadly striking partnership.

  5. Balotelli is one player that I would cry over (tears of profound sadness) if he arrived at Anfield. The boy has trouble written all over him and the last thing LFC needs is a Prima Donna. Leave him to the likes of City and Chelsea.

As for Crouch, while I absolutely adore the guy, there are a few factors that would need to be addressed.

    1. The price needs to drop by 2 million.
    2. Where does he fit in the scheme of things, and is he willing to spend a lot of time on the bench again?
    3. Can players avoid trying to play every ball long and aimed at his head, arguably his weakest skill?

One thing is for sure. If he joins and scores for us, I want to see the robot.

  6. How many of you think Crouch will be a good solo striker ? I don’t think he can be one..If we need another English player to fill the home grown quota and also ex-Red , why not go for Craig Bellamy..the boy plays good virtual golf too!!

The fear with Crouch is ..he can head well, but is he a world class replacement to Torres or his able partner ? the later is a doubtful may be, the former is a NO-NO..

  7. I think Crouch could fulfill the solo role as long as the ball is played into his feet. Kaustav, you say he’s good with his head but I’d argue that heading is actually his worst skill. Crouch is one of those players who should have only grown to 6ft max, and then you’d be looking at a much better player. His footwork is extremely good for a guy his size but his build robs him of the pace and centre of gravity to truly take advantage of it.

The factor to remember is that our midfield should offer a lot of goal scoring threat, and Crouch is a player who can hold up the ball and give out those chances. He’s not a direct replacement for Torres but I think he provides enough to make him a viable option.
