They needed a second chance to finish first

Tag-line from the movie Hoosiers starring Gene Hackmann as a High School Basketball coach.

All-though there is no direct connection from a movie taking place in small town Indiana in the 1950’s to today’s Liverpool FC – There is a lesson to be learned.

Alan Hansen, the former great speaking on the differences between Man City and LFC before the game on Monday night highlights why City want what is currently at place in Liverpool. The ability to play as a team, one coherent unit operating towards a common goal. Be it 3 points on Monday or that elusive number 19 at the end of the season. We got it – they simply don’t.

There are many signs and positive ones after we dropped the 2 points against Arsenal on Sunday. We were able to pres forward, even though we were at a disadvantage in numbers and we were by far the better team and mostly deserved the win. Are these the signs of the season – everybody wanting to show the critics wrong. Especially the local lads Gerrard and Carragher. Wanting everyone to know: That We Are Liverpool. 18 times champions, 5 times European winners and so mush more.

I believe in this team and I believe that we are moving in the right direction. There is a “small” hurdle concerning the sale of the club and getting proper caretakers. However there is no problem in determination and the will to win and everybody running that extra mile – look at Javier on Sunday! He put in a MOTM performance – Agger played on with a concussion.

These are the signs of a club with history and pride.

Time will tell if the tag-line: “They needed a second chance to finish first” holds water at the end of the season – if not this one – I am sure it will be said about next year.

P.S. And City should remember: There is no I in team
