Maybe I was wrong about Christian Purslow

Christian Purslow fisted salute outside court, courtesy of Liverpool Echo

Over the last few months I have been critical of Christian Purslow in my many tweets and blog posts. Most of my beef with Purslow have been over the firing of Rafa, the snubbing of King Kenny and the lack of football chief executive experience.

The Liverpool Chief Executive today marched out of court and gave a fisted salute to the camera and fans gathered after the victory in the High Court which now paves way for NESV to purchase Liverpool FC. Christian also received special praise from his soon to be new boss John W Henry who tweeted
“Well done Martin, Christian & Ian. Well done RBS. Well done supporters!”

To Christian and his family I publicly apologise for the things I have said in the past. What Purslow did to get rid of Hicks and Gillett was simply splendid and I am sure he will be remember in our glorious history for that.

The final chapter of Purslow has yet to be written and hopefully it will be a positive one and NESV will come through with their promises and make us a Championship winning team again.

  1. Soo happy today, a new era awaits for us…
I’d prefer peter lim though as he has money to splash, january we could do with some reinforcements and get rid of some fringe players, but am confident in our board to select the right owners YNWA

  2. No mate.

You weren’t wrong. Purslime has just done what’s necessary to keep his place on the LFC gravy train. That’s all he cares about.

Delighted to get rid of the cancer though.

Let’s see how the new owners are before going too overboard on the euphoria trip.

There was quite a bot of jubilation when the cancer first took over so a clear head is needed.

  3. Decisions regarding Insua’s loan, Aquilani’s loan, Rafa’s sacking and the leaking still needs to be in consideration.

For me personally I’d like him gone after the new bosses come. We need to start afresh.

  4. don’t think you where wrong. just think you where confused and had lost faith in everything just like the majority. start of a new era.. come on you red men!!!!!

  5. I think we all have alot to thank all three of “The Home Team” for. I’m not sure if I’m right but there removal from the board dident mean they were to be sacked from there current roles within the club ? If that is the case the three of them have done a very brave thing because if the court case had gone the other way they would all have been out of jobs quite soon.

  6. This is a very gentleman behaviour. Thats show what difference between LFC supporters and Hick & Gillett

  7. hope you have seen its not good to judge people because of some few things they do, so get your head together and learn from this mate!
firing Rafa was a good thing and it was done!
Rafa, Hicks and Gillett gone!…YNWA!!! ;)

  8. he got us joe cole, standard chartered deal worth 80m clubs record sponser the biggest sponser in the whole of premier league, and now this takeover so he has been relitavley sucssesfull if u consider he is under no contract so he aint getting paid for doing his right now maybe nesv will apoint him perminantly.

  9. Christian Purslow and the whole board should be saluted for their stand with respect to the owners.

They took a difficult route in the interests of the club which potentially gave them personal exposure.

Regardless of what individuals think about other decisions (personally I think Insua is no loss and Rafa had taken us as far as he could) they did us proud on this.

  10. Kevin, Hodgson made the decisions regarding Insua and Aquilani and it was also our manager that decided to focus on conducting a silly moral standoff over the sale of Mascherano, not to sell Kuyt and to spend all his time looking at central midfielders and strikers (before ultimately deciding that Poulson, Meireles and Carlton Cole were the most suitable candidates) while we remained in desperate need of wingers.

IRT Benitez, he had failed and deserved to be sacked – the owners were a good scapegoat to draw attention away from his failings, but we played some terrible football on our way to 7th in the league and so I don’t see how people are still arguing that he was unjustly despatched.

  11. Always have massive respect for a man who happy to admit they called it something or someone wrong. Kudos. Unlikely to ever happen over there at your ‘favourite’ Liverpool K** blog.

  12. I think you were wrong but well done for this apology.

I believe he has the best interests of LFC at heart and removing H&G was the first step on the path to recovery.

Next he has to secure the right owners to take the club forward. I believe Christian Purslow will do this correctly.

  13. It’s not only you mate but certain sections of the LFC crowd owe Purslow and Broughton a big apology,. Broughton has been honest from day one, yet supporters have been on his back as if sorting out the mess that was Liverpool FC was something that could be done overnight. Broughton has shown integrity and when he says that they have got the best deal for the club I for one have absolutely no reason to doubt his sincerety.

And any idiot wgho believes that our top players will up and leave the club now is just that……an idiot

  14. Fair play for the apology, I think Purslow is a world class operator, and need to be part of the management of the club as we move forward. Not only has he played a major part if ridding the club of H&G, but he is responsible for the massive increase in the commercial turnover of the club.

  15. Your not wrong mate… i agree with parts of you
As far as im aware as soon as there are new owners, then Purslow, Ayre and Broughton are out of there too as they are the new board so to speak.. so they all get ousted.

what this does is give them a credible rating for future companies. dont be surprised if they are the ball winners chosen for a court battle when United take the Glazers to court.

  16. Look who’s come crawling out from under their rocks now……

Btw- not sure the use of “Championship” was deliberate- but you do know that that word means another league in modern day football.

  17. takes a big man to admit a mistake, but we still have a long way to go.we need people only interested in our club and not their pockets.i like hodgson as a man but he is way out of debt at Liverpool, bring back THE KING. YNWA

  18. Antoine – I hate to say I told you so but I told you so…

Irrespective of the next steps this is a truly memorable event which signifies the end of G&H so there is cause for celebration.

Purslow has only ever acted with the clubs best interests at heart. Whoever is Liverpool CEO they will come under massive scrutiny and pressure. That he undertook the decision to sack Rafa was always going to be loathed by some and loved by others. In short it’s a role i wouldn’t take for all the money in the world – it’s simply impossible to satisfy everyone.

    YNWA

  19. respect for publicly airing this antoine. i for one think purslow has done a great job, hes not on a real contract yet he has got us the biggest sponsership deal in britain + joe cole & has put his neck on the line fending off hicks (a move that could have left him on the dole). we dont know his full involvement in the rafa thing nor whether that was a good or bad decision as yet. the dalglish decision was a board decsion based on his lack of recent experience & we dont have all the facts about that one. people do make mistakes, and we dont know if his hands were innitially tied. he has done what he (as a reds fan) felt was right for the club at every juncture however

  20. Yes you were very wrong if you are what you claim to be a liverpool fan you would have had no shadow ov doubt that christian purslow only and still does have lfc’s best interest at heart and shame on all you doubters.

  21. This is the most important fixture of the season. I’ve been following your posts and mostly left a bad taste for slagging the board. So nothing is what it is at face value. Therefore I plead the author to have more patience and confidence.

  22. I was skeptical of Mr. Purslow as well. The apology has been issued and it’s all in the past now as we begin the Reds new Golden Era. What a great day! The only thing that still confuses me is – Are we being bought by NESV or are they going to look at the Lin bid again?

  23. In Christian Purslow we are lucky to have a Liverpool fan on our board that also is a class operator in business.

Gentlemanly of you to apologise so openly Antoine- let’s hope the many other uninformed legions of board-haters have the magnanimanominimity to step up and do the same.

    :)

  24. Time will tell? BTW. I’ d’ rather we won the Premiership and not the Championship! Lol. YNWA.

  25. I have always believed CP to be a good person and not a lacky of H&G. 1st he is friends with King Kenny and Kenny would not let anything bad happen to LFC, secondly he has stood firm when he could have thought about himself and sacraficed liverpool. I hope that our new owners whoever they are keep the current management structure in place as they are passionate people and deserve the chance to work under better owners. Christian, Martin and Ian well done on your achievement, you have saved Liverpool from a fate worse than death…….. God bless you all. YNWA

  26. From one baseball owner to the other!!!! Dont get me wrong anybody is better than H & G. Lim wouldnt be so bad!!! Plenty of Funds!! Sense of Futbol!!!

  27. fair play. Some people have been hasty and very rude too. Credit to you for your blog. Some others need to follow you too. A lot of people are a bit too quick to comment sometimes.
The people who made the purslow banner for the demo should have egg on their faces now.
NESV or Mr Lim and his money made from Man Utd theme pubs? I think I prefer NESV myself. Reasons are obvious.

  28. Forgive me for saying this but i think he has done a great job at liverpool, and i have to say this to all LFC fans that he is the type of chief executive that thinks in terms of world wide LFC brand and franchise and not just to push the brands profile higher in england. We meaning LFC have for far to long been stuck in the past with our traditions now dont get me wrong our traditions are what makes us unique to other clubs but its time to make LFC not just a football club but a world buisness, like the top teams in the EPL, La Liga, Italy. LFC need to grow up and stop been that little corner shop up the road and start doing things like the scum, chelski, barca, and real and ac milan did except they are about 15 years ahead of us in the marketing and sales of world buisness and sporting buisness and that is why we need more good educated people like purslow and ayre. I hate to say this but we cant hope to live of our name for ever, there comes a time where we have to leave our past in the past and start to become a football force once again. This is just my opinion and i will probably slated for saying what i believe and i believe we really need to do this
