Everton 2 Liverpool 0 Sunday 17th October 2010

Quite a short review this week as I run the risk of repeating myself over and over again. The problem is that we are playing in exactly the same way, and making exactly the same mistakes as we have been doing since the start of the season, and things are not getting any better.

Today, apart from the last ten minutes, not one of our players (apart from Meirilies and Carragher) really seemed to be up for the game. Stevie G had a bit of an off day today, and was supposed to be playing alongside Torres upfront, but spent the majority of the game playing in midfield, as did Torres to be honest. No wonder we didn’t really manage to have many clear cut scoring opportunities, but the way we are playing at the moment, I am not sure we would score even if we had an open goal in front of us!

In the latter half of the second half we took the game to them and started to play, and make an attempt to get back into the game, but it was too little too late and by the time added on after the game we never looked like getting back, quite frankly.

We now lie in nineteenth place in the premier league with just West Ham below us with 6 points from 8 games, that’s a whole 16 points dropped. I just don’t know what to say at the moment, apart from the fact that we are going to have to pull our socks up and soon, before the the rot sets it to such an extent that can’t pull ourselves out of it.

  1. It’s one thing when the team isn’t performing well and you admit that it’s so, but for the manager to refuse to accept it and insist that it’s “the best performance of a Liverpool team I’ve managed” goes to show there’s something really wrong with him!

He surely must have lost the dressing room already! It looks like the players aren’t playing for him and when that happens the manager has to go. My big problem is that after the new ownership, we still have Maritn Broughton as LFC’s chairman. He’s a Chelsea fan (and not ashamed to admit to either – fairplay to him. 2 main people have to be changed ASAP, the Chariman and the Manager.

I mentioned in another comment that I felt Hodgson was only chosen as a ‘puppet’ for the LFC board members prior to their finding new owners for the club. Well, they’ve already done their job (hopefully the right one this time….) so it’s time to let the puppet master and his puppet leave. Kenny should be brought in either as a caretaker manager or as the new LFC chairman. LFC needs to be run by true LFC supporters who want the club to succeed (and not only pretend to). If things stay the same, then there’s no point in looking forward to achieving anything this season with LFc (except to make sure we don’t get relegated).

C’min John Henry and NESV…. talk to the supporters (as you said you would) if you want our club to succeed!

  2. After the seismic events relating to the ownership last week, I had assumed it would be back to normal at yesterday. And I suppose it was in many respects – becasue normal these days is not pretty, in fact it is pretty awful.

Hodgson has to go. He is clueless. Let’s face it the shape of the team has completely gone. There is too much space between defence and midfield, there is no cohesion between midfield and attack. The players are playing in a completely disorganised way with Cole and Gerrard playing anywhere other than the positions that they should be in. There are four central midfielders playing. Their is no width. Konchesky and Poulsen are not fit to wear the shirt. It is a mess.

I read a piece the other day saying Gerrard and Torres exert too much influence on the dressing room. Well if that is the case then it’s only because they are badly managed. Rafa clearly had that under control but Hodgson can not manage superstars.

That Hodgson can defend that performance is utterly unbelievable / laughable. He needs to go and quickly before it really is too much for us to make up. A new manager now could make all the difference – remember the impact on Spurs two years ago when Harry Redknapp came in?

I idolised Kenny when I was a boy. However, I am not convinced he is the right candidate. What i do know is that he can’t do a worse job than RH so if we are looking for a short term caretaker role then maybe Kenny could be given a chance to prove himself whilst the owners pull together a short list. Let’s face it – it would be a hugely popular move by the new owners would it not?

I just hope that NESV do it quickly.
