Rooney staying – Pathetic!

Posted by

If last week was all about Liverpool’s court drama, this week’s football news has revolved around Rooney wanting to leave Man. Utd. – a decision taken after the ex-Everton forward felt the club was regressing due to lack of new signings and the prospect of a stagnant future. Not that we could give a flying hoo-haa about what happens at Old Trafford but the latest headlines pointing to a Rooney U-turn show that, afterall, not all is rosy where United are concerned.

The ping-pong statements emanating from the Utd. camp suggested that the saga – ’cause that’s what it turned out to be – reached melting point. Players, manager and fans were all determined to give Rooney a right royal rollicking. Threats started pouring in and the more we heard about the crisis the more we thought the end was near; or was it really the end?

So we now know that Rooney has signed a five year contract and inexplicably tells the World what a genius of a man Ferguson is and that suddenly United’s future looks no longer bleak. Let’s rewind a bit – wasn’t Rooney stating this week that he feels the club no longer attracted top players? What’s changed in 48hrs? I believe the club is still shouldering a £750m debt burden, and, like it or not, Man. City are the ones attracting top players at the moment.

Rooney delivers a blast (a second one in a matter of hours) and signs a five year contract. Could it be that Rooney’s “unbelievable” U-turn is all about money? Isn’t he already paid a fortune and is one of Britain’s highest paid sportsmen? It would be correct to label the man as greedy if this were so. But is it – at all – possible for Ferguson to throw in the towel and give in to the mad financial requests laid out by Rooney and his agent?

There is another reason why this charade was put up – Utd. are fast losing credibility on the field of play. Opposing teams no longer capitulate at Old Trafford as was the norm a few years back. Rooney’s form has been disastrous (never mind him being a liability during England’s W. Cup games). Allowing teams to get back in games after leading by a few goals is not title-winning material. This nearly happened against Liverpool weren’t it not for Berbatov-flop who, for once, earned his weekly wage packet! The Rooney-rift was real but the timing of it making headlines played into Ferguson’s advantage at alienating the press and fans from the real problems facing Man. Utd. Giggs and Scholes will soon pack up and call it a day. No real driving force in midfield. Ferdinand and Vidic are no longer invincible (actually Vidic stopped being so the moment Torres set foot on British soil) and a misfiring Rooney leaves Utd. with no goal scoring threat.

The U-turn adds more questions than it does to answer them. How will the likes of Patrice Evra and company react to this news after allegedly telling the Utd. board that players will never trust Rooney again? If Rooney has been rewarded (!) with a heavy-weight contract, wouldn’t it be justified for others to make relatively similar demands? Is Rooney injured or not?!

Anyway, we’ve given enough exposure to the mancs on this site. It’s turning out to be sour. The point of this article is that Liverpool FC are not the only club in disarray at the moment. Bad as Liverpool’s troubles may sound, no player has handed in a transfer request and the club has sorted out the boardroom issues which have been instrumental in losing touch with the Premiership’s top fliers. We’re on the mend whereas Utd. may be nearing breakdown.

  1. Sir Alex IS a genius, had he been coaching Liverpool we’d have won a thing or two more. Same thing with Rooney, had he grown up in a different neighborhood.

As for Man U and Man City: if city don’t make it to the champions league this year they are going to have a hard time getting these top signings (and keeping the ones they already have). It will only get worse with time as fair play kicks in.

  2. A Fergus is NOT a genious. This whole sharrard is just to keep MU in the press after all the exposure LFC had.

  3. Why the fuck are you writting about Man U players???? This is a Liverpool Fans Website mate, I would remove this asap

  4. Stop showing your idiotic frustrations, clearly you thought Rooney was leaving Utd but now cant handle the fact that hes staying, you actually thought that all the Utd drama would smokescreen the absolute pathetic level of football & unbelievably embarrassing situation (relegation battle, piss poor, boring, stagnant football) your team is in! Get over it, Rooney stayed and Torres will put you muppets thru the same sh*t next year but WILL actually leave

  5. This reminds me of the time Captain magnifico Gerrard did a U-Turn. Rooney made the right choice staying i think, i dont think he would have had loyal fans chanting his name if he went abroad the English fans stick by you throught thick and thin. If he went to Man City it would be for the money and Chelsea the same but hed win something with Chelsea, however if he left i think people would realise he isnt loyal to know one and would end up goin from club-to-club like Anelka has. I blame his agent and representitives for advising him the wrong way they’re just leaches, on one side you have Sir Alex a father figure whose looking out for your best interests looks after you through thick n thin protects you from ctricism, then on the other side you have these leaches who just want your money and want you to hold the club to ransom for an extra dime or two.

Ian Holloway spoke for all the managers in the game this week with his rant and good on him for having the courage to do so……YNWA

  6. Actually this is exactly the same situation we had with Stevie for two years in 2004-2005.

Can’t see why people are making a fuss … we went through this ourselves.

  7. It appears they have given him a massive financial gain and protected their asset too, I am certain Rooney will once again be looking to leave next season but for a much higher transfer fee now.
It is a lesson in protecting your assets and keeping them happy so eventually all parties win.
Also it papers of the cracks that United are in decline too.

  8. Do yourself a favour and remove this article from the website?

Since when have we ever discussed or sang about that shower unless it has something to do with us???

    Youre damaging your own credibility!

  9. who gives a shit about scum utd and Rooney. is this what we come to now talking about other teams like we are already in the npower. more like you are pathetic for writing this article. we are bottom of the league and our manager is saying how delighted he is with a nil nil in Naples . that’s what we should be talking about. How are we gonna get out of this pickle we are in

  10. 1. Apparently supporters showing up in the dead of the night, wearing balaclavas and rolling out banners with death threats, at your resident, proves fairly persuasive.

    2. At least this seems to put Torres out of the picture, of a ManU bid. Now, if he can just regain some confidence, and form….

    3. Debt or no debt, ManU are still sitting 4 on table, while we’re 19th! I fail to see how their drama, and our scoreless woes, compare in the standings?

    4. I’ll take Sir Alex over Roy, every day of the week. I would fully suspect that we’d at least threaten the goal, if we had the former as our Gaffer.

    SCORE A DAMN GOAL ALREADY!

    YNWA!

  11. This was a clearly orchestrated move, Rooney complains, Fergie comes out subdued displaying a wronged father mood for having had one of his sons complain you dont have enough money to buy the best toys. Skysports and 16 managers who serve Fergie (including our own Roy who quickly offers Torres to united) with noted exception of Wenger Ancelotti and Mancini complain Rooney is not doing right by Fergie even though they didnt do the same when he dished this treatment to Moyes. Within the same week Roone not only apologises but signs a contract and I am sure Fergie has secured funds to spend, drama over. Watch out Spielberg and Hollywood, Old Trafford is the new home of the big screen movies.

  12. beleive me when I tell you all this was a plan which Rooney, there are three reason for this:
    1. Fergie and Gill done to demostrate to Glazier that if they dont show ambition and sign players then their so called stars will go.
    2. This will like a new signing and gives an impression that, Mna city may have all the money in the world, but stars like Rooney still see United as main club to win trophy
    3. I think after a week of liverpool drama, Man united needed this to kick their so average season again.
I may be wrong about the reasons or maybe more reasons but I know from a good source that, Rooney had already agreed to sign the new contract earlier in the week and the whole thing was planned

  13. who gives a fucking shit…… fuckin listen to yourselves . your talking like your championship supporters about a big team. shut the fuck up who cares about fucking Rooney and man utd . jog fuckin on will ya

  14. Its all abot money the greedy fecker got £180K per week whilst the rest of the country is in Recession/job cuts atc

  15. ££££££ signs, tell him anything get to him signed, protect his ££££££ value, he will go soon to help pay off the debts, cant risk ££££££.

  16. This is pretty worrying news. Rooney asked for reassurances about the club’s ability to attract top class players. Now suddenly he’s reassured. A day after Uncle Bulgaria, best friend to Siralex, effectively touted Torres as a potentially Utd target. Could Siralex and Uncle Bulgaria have had one of their fireside chats over a bottle of wine with us getting Michael Owen in return?

  17. All the Manc Scum supporters need to shut up and leave this forum. This is for Liverpool FC supporters!

Torres and Gerrard never suggested they would leave Liverpool..unlike those greedy glory hunters from Manchester!

Liverpool is gonna pull through and climb! Mancs are gonna rot and fall!

  18. Man Scum is filing bankrupt at this very moment. Rooney should have followed that Ronaldo traitor – who at least showed the vision of this teams slide. We should really talk about Liverpool on this site as the other mob will be dissolved soon enough. Rooney – run back to Everton so you can stay in the EPL past this year – listen to Ronaldo or get a translator so you can follow to better pastures – not that you need any more food you sloth.

  19. Rooney earned him self a pay rase, that is it.
As for Liverpool, no one should be sold and new owners must find a new manager ASAP to stop the club going down.
We do not ask for Mourinho or Wenger in this point but someone capable of keeping the clab relegation-free, O’Neill could do it, even Gerard Houlier would be a better option now.

New manager can than bring his own signings, becouse if Hodgson spent 8 mil. on Poulsen and Konchesky (combined), insted of bidding 8 mil. for one proper left back, we would now have one less problem in our defence.

Aquillani was let to leave when he could have been used, if not in midfield, than as a barrganing tool to get someone from Italy, Felipe Melo, for example.

Benitez made mistakes during the years, and Hodgson made all the mistakes in 4 months, bringing Meireles is his only good decision.

  20. Hey Chessy, are you for real when you say “All the Manc Scum supporters need to shut up and leave this forum. This is for Liverpool FC supporters!” If that’s the case why is the whole article about Rooney and Man United?

And Karl, do you really understand what you’re saying when you write that “Utd. are fast losing credibility on the field of play” at a time when Liverpool are second last on the table?

Most of these responses are correct. Please employ a mature person who knows what the hell he’s writing about instead of a kid whose still wet behind the ears.

  21. What a lot of desperate guys you lot are. All you can talk about is Rooney, Ferguson and United. Are Liverpool not worth talking about?
