Europa League : Liverpool – Napoli (Thursday)

Posted by

After our ‘Famous’ victory at the Reebok we return to Anfield to host Napoli in the Europa League.

The Italians are still in excellent shape and can be very threatening as we saw in game at the San Paolo two weeks ago. They beat Brescia last weekend and are now in fifth place in the Serie A.

Roy Hodgson has said that he wants three points from this home fixture to ensure qualification as early as possible. The Gaffer recons we need four more points to qualify so maximum points tomorrow will make life very easy for the final two games. He has some injuries to deal with as Glen Johnson might feature however Dirk Kuyt, Daniel Agger and Joe Cole are all injured while Sotirios Kyrgiakos is doubt-full following a training injury. Roy has said that he will field a strong side today so I expect both Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard to play. Should Kyrgiakos not play we will probably see Martin Kelly unless Glen Johnson is available.

Predicted Liverpool Lineup:
Pepe Reina, Martin Kelly, Martin Skrtel, Jamie Carragher, Fabio Aurelio, Christian Poulsen, Raul Meireles, Maxi Rodriguez, Steven Gerrard, Ryan Babel, Fernando Torres

Kick off is at 8:05PM GMT

  1. Johnson is available but will probably start on the bench. Id love to see Shelvey playing alongside Gerrard it would benefit him hugely in the long run, just like Gerrard experienced himself in the Eefa and league cup all those years back under Houlier, with Hamann, Berger, Mcalister, Smicer, Owen and Heskey and not forgetting super Markus Babbel look how well Gerrards turned out. Where at home i just hope Roy shows some balls to play some attacking football, give Babel a run and Pacheco and for god sakes don’t play 4-4-2……YNWA

  3. I’d like to see a little bit more of Jova,I think he can bring something to the squad, maybe give Maxi a day off.I’d also like to see Jonjo and N’Gog who looked pretty impressive at the “famous” Reebok victory.Maybe Roy will give another shot to the 4-4-2 which he hasn’t started with since the Citeh game.Come on Reds get the win and we’ll only have to focus in the league for a while.

  4. would love to see babel and jova get more playing time, they seem like they can get wide on the wings and stretch the defense.
