Tottenham 2 Liverpool 1

The most annoying thing about this game was that we should really have had in the bag by half time, it certainly wasn’t through lack of chances on our part either, just by chances not taken and one or two touches too many made.

Both Maxi and Torres (amongst others) had chances that they both should of buried to extend the score to 3-0 after Skrtel’s opener in the first half, but for some reason or other, they decided to have another touch, and that touch was enough to stop them from scoring, or for the goal keeper to change his position and be able to save the shot.

What undid us was lax defending and not paying attention when we should have been, simple as that, and Lennon (who had done arse-all all game) shot through and scored the winner two minutes into injury time.

Not even a draw would have been a better result as we played well enough to win the game, but to lose it, and to lose it the way we did was simply sickening, but you see it happen time, and time again. It should never have come to that though, but it doesn’t excuse it either.

It could have been worse for us a minute later when Lennon had another chance but, luckily for us he didn’t this one quite as clinically as he had the first shot, and we were saved further embarrassment.

Roy did make one really bizarre decision, that would have been worthy of Rafa, in this game when, at 1-1, he took off David N’Gog and replaced him with Fabio Aurelio, when we were chasing the game. Quite why this happened is anybody’s guess, but it didn’t have the desired effect, if the desired effect was trying to keep the game level pegging, it certainly wasn’t to try and go and win the game, that’s for sure!

Surely Jonjo Shelvey would have been a better replacement for N’Gog if you had to choose to try and get something from the game, but then again I am not a manager, so perhaps I am not the best person to judge!

I don’t really know what else to say about this match except that we should have been home and dry before half time, and then we sat back and ended up losing the game by taking our eye of the ball. Very, very annoying indeed and two points squandered.

Two points squandered – riddle me that one please.

  2. He brought in aurellio so he could move kuyt up into ngog’s spot. I honestly didnt have a problem with that but i wish we would have replaced maxi with babel. We needed more pace and someone that could actually hit the net.

  3. He took off Ngog and still played 442 looking to win the game, Ngog picked up a knock as far as I saw, Rafa would have started with 2 holding CM and one up front, which he did last season at Spurs and we still lost, really think you’re spliting hairs if you think Ngog sub was that bad.

Started 442 and finished the same, Rafa only left 2 strikers at the club before he left, not like Woy has a lot of options on the bench

We’ll win more than we lose if we play all our games in the same fighting, attacking way, such a breath of fresh air to Rafa’s stuffy borning style. Think some form will come in time, only 3 months into the worst past spell in LFC history I can remember, on and off the pitch

When we can get few signings in and get rid of the dead wood at the club, I’m sure we’ll have a strong finish to the season ready to challenge again for next season

  4. When he brought Aurelio on he moved Dirk up front and Maxi over to the right its not like he went 4 5 1 i can’t stand Hodgson and i can’t wait for him to go but i could sort of understand the substitution although i would’ve give Jova the shout as for the missed chances in truth it could’ve finshed 3-3 and there would’ve been no complaints the best away performance under Hodgson but the man has to go i really don’t think he’s anywhere near good enough

  5. …TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR improved during the game second half just a matter of time before class showed scousers pretty good bit dirty scrappy goal best team won on the day …outlaws.

  6. shelvey………. shelveys awful, aurellio is much better on the wing than shelvey, joe cole wud of been my preferred choice, hes a player that can spark a bit of magic!

  7. Others have already commented on the N’Gog substitution, so I’ll just say that I didn’t see anything wrong with it. Simple fact is that we didn’t take our opportunities and were found lacking at critical times in defense. On another day we win this match and everyone talks about the fact that we halted a Spurs side that has made a season out of blitzing teams after going a few goals down.

The focus point should be that we finally put in a good away performance and the team looked like they knew what they were supposed to be doing. It could be a false dawn and next away match we revert to looking clueless but at the moment I’m quietly confident that steps are being made in the right direction.
