Liverpool 3 Aston Villa 0

No Carragher, no Gerrard, no Torres. As far as a lot of people were concerned this game was less than a forgone conclusion and we would be showed up as the three man team that many believe us to be. However with a comprehensive 3-0 victory we should banish those thoughts, but they will never go away. I reckon we could win six, seven or eight nill without them and there would still be doubt in some people’s minds.

We played some of the best football that we had done all season in this game, and we also made some stupid mistakes, but luckily for us they didn’t turn into golden opportunities for our opponents like they often have before this season.

Villa were out of sorts in this game and they never looked like getting back into the game once NGog and Babel had put us 2-0 up after only 16 minutes but they did get back into the game in the latter part of the first half but did not create any clear cut chances for themselves. We also had some more chances and it is a pity that we didn’t go in at the break further ahead than we already were.

In the second half Villa bought on a sub and changed their shape a little but it still wasn’t enough and soon after we added a third goal from Maxi which killed the game stone dead.

I still think that we should have had more goals than the three that we got, but it was enough to win the game and take us into eighth place in the premier league just ten points off the leaders (and ten points of the bottom too, but who’s counting?)

  1. Great to get the result without our spine. 2 man team? Ha.

Happy for Babel to get a goal on his first EPL start this season. He seemed confident tonight and showed some great skill at moments. Lucas with the assist is also quite nice. Ngog and Babel made a decent partnership.

Not one of Ngog’s better overall performances IMO but he came up big when it mattered getting a goal and an assist. Great finish from Maxi.

The team as very organized and closed down well. Too bad for the late goal against Spurs or we’d be in an even better position. Things may be starting to look up for us.
