Very sad news coming out of Israel today as Avi Cohen has been declared dead by his doctors at Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital.

Cohen, 54, was critically injured in a traffic accident on December 20. The former Liverpool player was riding his motorcycle when he was reportedly hit by a car. At the hospital he underwent immediate surgery and has been in the ICU for the last seven days.

In 1979, he joined the Reds for a fee of $450,000, becoming the first Israeli to play for an English team.

He played a total of 18 games for the Reds, scoring 1 goal.

RIP Avi

To his family and friends our condolences.

  1. very sad, avi was such a good player i’m amazed he only played 18 games, he was much better than some who have played over 100 games.

  2. he’s not dead.
he’s only brain dead, there are enough people who got out of it. continue praying for him!

  3. Brain death is irreversible. You are getting confused with vegetative states that people can recover from. Unfortunately you can not recover from brain death. RIP Avi. Condolences to your friends and family x
