Babel out, Suarez in?

Posted by

I’m not going to lie, when LFC.TV announced Ryan Babel is set to be sold, I was half way through writing a blog, article or whatever you want to call it about why Kenny should give Babel a chance in the first team or just sell him. Clearly I got my answer before I even asked the question, and now there’s nothing else to do but wish Ryan good luck at Hoffenheim, and hopefully get his career back on track, after unfortunately being a squad member for too long now, and hopefully for him now consistently being in Hoffenheim’s starting eleven and I’m sure he’s gunning to be adding to his 40 Holland caps. But then the question has to be asked, are we investing in someone else and who?

Now if the papers are going to be believed, while they’re half-right with Babel going to Germany, then surely all eyes go to Luis Suarez of Ajax and Uruguay, which who is probably best known for his “heroic” handball in the World Cup to help get Uruaguay in the Semi-Finals, and then for biting PSV player Otman Bakkal, but there’s no doubting that other that, then he’s a quality player, and a very exciting prospect. With 110 goals in 154 appearances for Ajax, his scoring record is incredible, but being in a Dutch league it should be taken with a pinch of salt, and unless he turns out to be a Ruud Van  or Denis Bergkamp, don’t expect his scoring record to be the same in England. For those of you who don’t know much about Luis Suarez, he’s just 23 years old and has 38 caps for his country, and was signed by Ajax as a replacement for Ryan Babel. Last season Suarez netted an incredible 49 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions, an amazing feat in any league.

With reports of it’s just a matter of time until he signs for Liverpool, why not take a look at our possible newest recruit?

  1. But don’t we have a problem and many questions?

Suarez is a striker, like Torres. And we all know that Torres need a giver to perform. Like Ngog (Torres said he likes to play alongside him too).

We’ve got Gerrard or Cole in givers. So if Suarez comes, will he start matches? Or will he only be a “turn over option” ?

It’s exciting to think Suarez can come, but if he lives Ajax, it’s not to sit on bench, and i’m not really sure him and Torres can perform in attack together.

  2. A player who totally frustrated the life out of me,bags of talent but will never have the right atitude to be a top player.I should think the club will have someone in mind to replace him-i hope its Suarez,he would be a great signing and from what i’ve seen of him has a bit of fire in his belly-something sadly Ryan never had in an LFC shirt

  3. Suarez has been our target for abt 2 years now…… I am certain that the boy has the same hunger and ambition of those great Stars mentioned above…… Welcome to Anfield Son !

  4. Don’t count the chickens before they’re hatched. Suarez may not join Liverpool after all. That will be a big blow to Liverpool’s hopes of remaining in the Premiership. NESV must invest before we’re overtaken by the clubs currently below us. It’s as bad as that and King Kenny can’t do much other than keep insisting that his playing squad is good enough for the Premiership.

  5. Sad for Ryan, nobody never give him 100% confidence, I barely can remember a match that he started playing, he was always comming from the bench. No surprise he never showed his true potencial. Benitez signed the guy and had no pacience with him, then with Roy I thought he would get more chances but no again and with the king he goes to the exit door.

  6. Fair enough the lad sure looks like he’s got a nose for goal. Looking at that clip and the goals he scored you really really got to be honest he gets time and space in Holland he can only dream about in the PL.

Other than that I think whatever money we have should be invested in defenders.

  7. Well, considering it was assumed that Babel would help with the transfer fee, for Suarez, and now Ajax, knowing full well that Suarez wants out, and isn’t going to play for them with any enthusiasm, are now trying to hold LFC to the fire, for way more than he’s worth, I’d seriously doubt it happens.

I don’t understand a Club, in this case Ajax, refusing to sell a disgruntled player that they stripped of his Captaincy, except for a totally inflated price tag? Where is the business aspect? Ajax get nothing in return, and a player that doesn’t want to be there and won’t play hard. They should be thrilled to get even close to their bogus evaluation.

Good luck, Ryan! Sorry that Howard Webb cost you so much money, and your job with LFC.

  8. Now, thats one more point for the Liverpool FC’s brillant transfer directors. The guy costs 11 mi and then is sold for 5.8 mi, almost the half price! genial, just genial. And I’m still trying to undestand the Aquilani deal.. The club payed 20 mi for the signing of the italian and one season later, he is loaned! Seriously, and people don’t undestand why we are in such a mess….–‘

  9. i wont believe babel’s gone until he say’s it, he has been after running his contract down for some time.

  10. Guys, I’d have Suarez instead of Babel everyday! There is absolutely no comparison! The thing is…will he choose Liverpool, will we have the funds to bid for him???

  11. It’s not just the number of goals he scored, it’s the way he playes and contributes to his team.

I know there were players, strikers, scoring incredible amount of goals in Holland, but many of them were mere poachers who were playing in a superior team that was wining by a good margin most games. Eredivisie has some great clubs, but most clubs in the league are under the level of Championship clubs in England.
Ajax was not as superior when Suarez came to Amsterdam.

You can judge Suarez as a player if you conider his preformances in all competitions, including CL, and his national team.

    P.S.
Forget his handball already, Henry did it, and who wouldn’t want him join Liverpool insted of Arsenal all those years ago, I’ve seen Smicer do it one and no one is critisized him about it.

  12. surprised are nesv selling before buying if we miss out on our targets we will be in allot of trouble, so i believe that something has do be done for them to move babel.

  13. @Salazar Gonçalves – the reason we are selling him at a loss is that he hasn’t performed for whatever reason. You can’t expect somebody who doesn’t get a game to earn a high transfer fee – very simple really. Agree re Aquilani – strange deal but you can hardly blame the current owners/comolli/dalglish for that one. I also believe that we can’t cancel the loan as it was predicated on a sale clause at the end of the season – smashing!!!

  14. I wish Ryan all the best, of course!
But I doubt that Suárez will form a legit partnership with Nando. If Suárez comes, he hopefully will prove me wrong, but right now I don´t think these 2 men are made for a right partnership. My opinion of course

  15. So why is Ajax manager denying that Liverpool have made any offer and at the same time the british and dutch press are talking about negotiation.

  16. As far as I can see, that should be the perfect transfer for Babel. A mid-table German club, looking to push for a top 5 finish. He should be able to command a starting place once he’s settled in, and I think the slightly less physical approach of the Bundesliga will give him a platform to show what he can do.

5.8 million is not too bad although it would have been nicer to get around the 7 mark.

Hopefully we can welcome the Cannibal in the near future.

  17. NESV have to buy now..we are talking about Liverpool who have a weak squad with not many players, and they are starting selling, especially babel who is 24 years old..i mean if we dont buy this month,we’re screwed big time..i hope that john henry has plans by selling babel.i dunno if that is suarez,hulk,aguero,..etc but we definitely need players right now.look at the squad and the players that are worth are:reina, carragher, agger, johnson, meireles, gerrard, joe cole,kuyt,torres..the others are players filling gaps where we are hurt, and that aint good for a club like liverpool.we need top class players right now.we dont have a left back,we dont have a proper defensive midfielder(dont tell me that lucas is playing, cauz his talent aint for liverpool starter..),a winger and a partner for torres, keeping in mind that we aint have squad depth..i hope to see this squad someday…
    Reina
    Johnson Carragher Agger Coentrao
    Van Bommel Gerrard
    Joe Cole
    Kuyt Torres Suarez
Bench:Gulacsi,Skrtel,Kelly,Aurelio,Lucas,Meireles,Maxi, and some others cauz right now our 2nd striker is Ngog…Ngog who??the guy hasnt scored for 3 months!!

  18. Suarez looks like hes on his way 25 mill Euros looks ike the fee, and hes been stripped of the clubs captaincy. Liverpool faithfull we may have got our wish for a world class strike partner for EL-NINO bring it on!!

Personally i think Villa got ripped off with the Bent deal he aint worth it, just because hes British his price rockets what a load of crap. This homegrown rule is just making clubs add more millions on to player values……YNWA

  19. #James: It’s just strange because babel is younger than other players in the squad that are underachieving as well. They could have sold jova, that has been as poor as babel, but is older than him. Anyway, I was just hoping that the administration under nesv could show more inteligence in transfer affairs, but that is such a bad start. And forgot to mention insua, he has talent, is young and had done a good last season then was loaned this season to make space for konchesky. It really makes me sick….

#steve: totally agree, half the window gone and we have no signings.. the team needs more main players. we have a talented youth with lucas, ngog, pacheco, kelly, spearing, shelvey, etc. but we need the big names to lead the team foward….

  20. make no mistake the incedibly selfish money orientated bbel will make lfc sweat and screw every penny he can get out of us.
this is the guy who spent half a day in a new york police station over a $10.00 excess cab fare. he has been doing his bestto run his contract down so he gets the most cash out of it not lfc.

  21. you can read babel like a book, he will take it to the wire and not play ball, he will be the selfish greedy —- he is.

  22. KENNY HAS PROMOTED THE FOOTBALL PHENONOMEN CALLED SUSO TO THE FIRST TEAM SET UP – BABEL COULD NOT LACE THIS LADS BOOTS – FACT -AND HE IS ONLY JUST 17. COADY IS ALSO PROMOTED, STIRLING, SILVA, SHOULD FOLLOW SOON PLUS A FEW MORE OF THE GREAT YOUNG TALENT WE HAVE. RAFA AND THOSE HE PUT TO WORK GETTING THESE LADS IN AND BRINGING THEM ON DESERVE GREAT CREDIT.

  23. Stan Howard – you are talking nonsense. There’s nothing selfish or greedy about wanting to go to your home town club, rather than any old club in Germany, after you have spent months on the bench watching the likes of N’gog getting more game time than you. Babel is not fit to lace Suso’s boots? What are you on? If Suso and N’gog and co are the real deal at this moment, why is the only player that anyone is enquiring about, yes you guessed it, Ryan Babel? Babel has been mismanaged at Liverpool and I’m sure that if he goes to the right club, and Hoffenheim may not be that club, that he will do fine. Why should the guy move to where the club wants him to move? And you seem to have missed the fact that we are 13th in the league and many of the regulars in the team have been absolute rubbish for some time now. So not sure where you decide that Babel is somehow the weak link in the squad.
