Liverpool 1 Fulham 0

Another game brings another win. How few times we have been able to say that this season?

It was a scrappy goal that settled the tie in the end, but they all count and it certainly wasn’t for want of trying on our behalf.

In the first half alone there was the goal that was disallowed by Nando in the first half (which was never offside in the memory of man), plus half a dozen other chances where we could have put the game to bed in the first period.

The second half was a different kettle of fish with Fulham getting more into the game, due to our inability to keep the ball and, to be honest, if it wasn’t for the heroics of Pepe Reina and Raul Meireles the score might have been different.

We didn’t create much in the second half but we managed to get a goal off the shin of John Pantsil so the three points go to us. Either side could have won the match but with a bit of luck on our side it was us to proved to be the victor, and it was nice to have a two match unbeaten run to go into the FA Cup enforced break.

It is nice to see the players actually enjoying themselves playing for the club once more, and actually attacking the other team’s goal. If only we could keep that level of play up for the whole 90 minutes then we might see more definitive victories and see us consolidate ourselves in the top half of the table.

The signs are looking good now and I hope that we can carry on the way we have been playing over the past few weeks and, hopefully, there will be a couple of new names appearing in a red shirt over the next couple of weeks.

The future is bright for the moment, let’s hope it remains so.

  1. I think that performance just shows that someone like Charlie Adam is much needed in midfield. Mirieles was everywhere and had another great performance. Johnson can continue at left back for now. But skrtel needs some serious competition. Buy a centre back, Charlie Adam, suarez and watch us climb the table.

  2. Hi Adam.
I agree that it was another win (always welcome over these past 2 years, but if we were to have a frank reflection on last night’s game I think we would agree that it was a performance that typified this season). Fulham will feel rightly hard done by.
Personally, I’m pleased that KD is back but I do think that the problems have always ran far deeper than as to which coach is at the helm.
Wolves was a good victory but I think that its fair to say that they were ‘easy meat’. We have got to address the balance of this team and sort it out. Aside from Wolves and a spirited game against the mancs we remain mediocre.
Twiggy has more width than LFC! We have become a one dimensional team. SG is for me, probably the best LFC player to don the shirt(KD close second), but when he plays it seems the whole team has to keep running things through him.
Last night we had no guile or real cutting edge for most of the second half yet we have Cole and Pacheco on the bench.
I’m happy to grind some results out at present in order to gain a more respectable PL position but the footie we are playing for most of the time is pretty drab and predictable i.m.h.o. It’s sad to see so many empty seats at Anfield but it probably gives a fair reflection of our form.
‘When you walk through a storm’ it’s when you need the support from the fans so the ‘stay aways’ need to resume their support please.
personally, I would have taken Kuyt off sooner (poor game), Pacheco or Cole in behind Torres and switch SG out to the right to give us a bit of width.
The star man award had to go to that linesman- dreadful decisions at times(although I havent seen the replay of the game yet).
Let’s hope we can fetch 1 or 2 decent players in before deadline day and salvage this season. CL finish is a nono but Europa league places give us a target.
