Forget The Ins, We Need Assurances That Torres Is Staying

Posted by

I felt I had to post a few lines regarding the official bid by Chelsea to lure on-fire Torres to Stamford Bridge. The club have come out saying that the Spaniard is not for sale, albeit a sum of £35-40m having reportedly been put on the table by Chelsea. Latest news has it that Torres has asked for the club to consider the offer. I am sincerely hoping Sky News’ source got it completely wrong. Forget worries about not getting any players, if Torres departs, that will have a cataclysmic effect on a club enjoying a stable but delicate period. The sight of Torres alone is encouraging before kick-off and I’m sure his team-mates get that added boost when he’s around.

It has also been said that Torres has a £50m buy-out clause and I’m sure Chelsea will be determined this time round to conclude the transfer. Torres himself needs to come out and dismiss the story. The club have already done their part in stating he’s not for sale. I’m still convinced Torres is Liverpool through-and-through but the latest headlines have got me terribly anxious and in the multi-million transfer scenario, anything is possible.

We don’t need this, we just don’t need this.

  1. Did guilleme ballauge get this from sky’s sources or is he sky’s source? i just dont understand how these guys get the information? no one in the club would want to tell the press about this, and i guess not torres either.. just really hope its not true.. he must understand that he will ruin his rep at the club if he leaves, and if he stays he is destined to become a legend in one of the biggest clubs in the world (if not the biggest)..

  2. £60m I’ll drive him there myself!

Acting like he’s bigger than the club! Chelsea pensioners!!! Whats that about?

  3. As far as I remember Torres said that he wants to honour his contract at Liverpool just a couple of weeks ago. Balague is merely an attention seeker who is talking right out of his ar$e right now.

  4. Hi Karl, I don’t believe a word about the article which states that Torres asked for a transfer. This is just fabricated news. The news about Chelsea’s bid is convenient for both parties, Chelsea show an ambition to spend, and Liverpool, in the wake of their difficulties to buy players, at least show that they don’t want to sell…..and will have fans thinking….at least we keep what we have.

    1. Hi Colin, great to have you around. It has to be like you say. I’m going nuts right now, last thing we need is Torres leaving.

  5. Torres says it time and time and time again the boy must be getting sick of saying he is commited to Liverpool.

He draped the liverpool scraf over the world cup, only 2 weeks ago he said

” My head is in liverpool, I am professional and I always see out my contracts, so that takes Fernando to at least 2013 ”

As for Balaque always being right, I cant remember the last time he said something that came to fruition.

Torres will not join Chelsea there rebuilding job is way bigger than Liverpools is.

Plus for FFR kicking in soon, Chelsea could become a spent force

  6. Why should Torres leave anyway ? We’re on the way up…there may be an other reason…..he thought he was going to have a new striking partner (Suarez) and now apparently we are getting no one. Might be trying to force the hands of the Americans

  7. Please not to Chelski??? I swear I read a news story only days after Hodgson left that Fernando said he intends to honor his contract?? Am I wrong??? I could take it if he went to Madrid with Benzema & Diarra coming the other way but I do not want to see him in that blue shirt.

  8. Have to agree Torres came out last week and said he would be staying at least till the end of his contract and as for sky sports they reported earlier he had a 50 million relase clause now they are saying he doesn’t think I’ll stick to the Dail mail or the sun for proper info hahaha

  9. I also hope this is not true … but, if it is true then lets not allow the negative “world is going to end” routine to creep in!

Torres has a lot to prove right now, we haven’t seen a consistent Torres for a long while, of course I want him to stay but there is a real chance he will want to move and not be part of the rebuilding process, I did feel he would stay till the summer and then we’d see if he had the heart to stay and be part of the new LFC .. this is a little earlier then I had expected, if this is the case then good luck dude and we’ll take nothing less then 50m …

My attitude is this way as the rebuilding is about commitment, ANY player without 100% focused commitment and belief in the team and club as a whole should move on … We now have a solid financial structure in place, Kenny needs to get to the summer to start the process proper as the Jan sales are not always fruitful …

I’m sure if this is true, LFC will be telling him he can go in the summer but will we continue to see the improvement or will his head be elsewhere … all guess work :-)

Lets hope Torres wants to stay and we build around him, I’m sure thats the plan … but if not, please lets not get all doom and gloom around it, lets “Walk On” and support Kenny in the rebuilding process …

  10. When the source in The newspaper that no decent person should read then You can dismiss it completely. Torres or LFC would never talk to them (or their sister Sky). It is just a lie. Watch it be ignored or laughed at by KK.

  11. I seriously hope these comments are not true. I believed Fernando when he said only a few weeks ago that he will honour his contract and he is truly committed to getting the reds up the table and out of the mess we are in. I hope that these comments were sincere and i truly believe that although Guillem normally speaks the truth, has got this completely wrong. Fernando must stay YNWA!!!

  12. >Torres himself needs to come out and dismiss the story

Very true. When Reina was rumoured to have told the club he wanted to leave last November, he came out and rubbished the media story since it was not true. It is the same here; if this report is not true, then Torres must come out and rubbish the story. If it IS…. then we have to move on, since no player is bigger than the club. But we should at least demand £50m and anything less than that shouldn’t be considered.

  13. There is no truth in the reports that Pepe Reina and Fernando Torres have `escape` clauses written into their Liverpool contracts and there is no intention for either of the pair to quit Anfield in January.

Nevertheless, there are many unanswered questions regarding the new owners plans for Anfield and their early attempts at managing expectations suggest that Liverpool fans cannot expect an immediate to return to the top of European or Premier League football. NESV`s talk of efficiency is reassuring on the financial front, but does little to dispel doubts surrounding sporting ambitions and the club`s short term ability to compete.

  14. Utter tripe… Yes Chelsea made a bid but it was rejected. As mentioned above it is possibly nothing more than a statement of intent from Chelsea and Liverpool in that Chelsea need to show their fans they are interested in signing the best, and Liverpool have to convince their fans they want to retain their best players and improve the squad!
To be honest, this is the worst, and laziest kind of journalism, the kind of thing an 11 year old could conjure up in a creative writing class…
All they need is one quote to give the article some kind of credibility, but all we see is the journalists poor opinion in a bid to scare Liverpool supporters (as if we haven’t had enough crap in the last couple of years) into thinking our prize assest may desert us again!
Nando has stated his love for the club and his commitment to the club and we can’t expect him to come out and publicly state his view every time he is rumoured to be leaving.. We have to trust the player and the club and not the sh*t stirring journalists that spunk their filth up the walls of the internet!

  15. By the way, I want to add that I am not slating the author of this piece Karl V-Grant, but instead whoever started this rumour in the 1st place…. apparently Guilleme Ballauge..

  16. guillem is not wrong often. if the worst could happen then the owners need to show they are better than hicks and gillet and get their targets in.at least if we have suarez in place it wont be such a big blow. Dont get me wrong it wont be good but luis is as natural a striker as we will get. get adam in push gerrard or raul behind luis , get warnock and push johnson further forward. No players is bigger than the club and lets face facts torres is quality but he has not been playing with a smile on his face and he is injury prone at best. if he stays then good if he leaves the owners can then prove their worth by taking positive action.

  17. I feel physically sick with this news, think I’d stop watching footie altogether if torres goes to chelsea. He’s just started to regularly bang them in too. I hope guilleme is wrong but it’s worrying he is also a liverpool fan, talk to nando guilleme and tell him to stay if this is true! Personally I dont think its true, same crap was thrown about with reina a few months ago.

  18. Just more bullshit trying to de-stabilise the team. The bid is fact the rest is at best rumour at worst pathetic hacks trying to sell papers.

  19. If all these sources are so well connected and have the inside story why didnt they know the bid was going to be made in the first place? Seems they know an awful lot after its been told by somebody else! Perhaps its just me?

    1. Torres must certainly understand what it means to have Kenny as manager. There’s no better manager-club duo than Kenny and Liverpool. If the media says Torres has asked Liverpool to consider the move, and this is utter bull as I am inclined to believe, he needs to come out and deny it. It would seal the lid once and for all.

  20. i hope he stays but if he wants out so be it but not until we get a class goalscorer. if we are not going to gettop player s in and we havnt up to now for three tranfer windows who can blame him ?

  21. I lost confidence in Guilleme Ballauge getting it ‘right most of the time’ long ago! He either sits on the fence, states the obvious or yes, occasionally gets hold of some ‘insider’ information. But so does most of Spain as they tend to talk to the press about players etc to force their hand a lot more than we do! So this doesn’t worry me. If Torres stays then good (and get him a partner ASAP) and if he goes then so be it, just get £60,000,000 from the chavs! The only thing I’ll really miss is bouncing around The Park pub singing the Torres song before a match!! Feels like you’re on a trampoline!!

  22. Personally think that: 1. The owners have to try and demonstrate their willingness to a Club which is in a absolute need of Players, loosing a player like Torres will have a negative effect and Kenny Effect will disappear. 2. Torres, he is trying to first of all show how important he is today, and he wants quality players, he loves Liverpool but being lie to on every transfer season, broken promises all of time, top players look at different options if the Club is not providing. 3. We can finish the season with pride, a top four finish is reachable and possible, but without Torres and his experience??!!! 4. Loosing another top player and waiting for another star to rise is out of my patience.

  23. If I were Torres I will consider playing for a team whose owner is willing to spend to bring quality world class players in. Each we promise him we’re going to invest in the squad and nothing happens. Don’t tell JH & TW will do any differently, if they are not willing to spend 25mil to bring in Suarez, or other top players what gives anyone the idea that they will in the summer.
This team is not as strong as many are making it out to be, we are riding the wave of KING KENNY’s arrival but that can carry you only so far.

    King Ahern
    YNWA

  24. Why are we suprised that yet again the daily (manc)mail sky sports etc prints a story with obvious spin on it that will unsettle and cause concern amongst liverpool fans . Alan Green of radio five recently made an interesting observation against which we should weigh any press related stories about liverpool . Prior to the tottenham v man utd game the gathered press corps at white hart lane watched the derby match on tv . when everton scored a huge roar went up when liverpool scored there was silence. ?????

  25. No way this story can be true. We need Torres and Suarez up there together. Do I need to fast to make it happen. God Please.Answer our prayers.

  26. A brief look at our not too distant history.

Micheal Owen left because he thought he was headed for much greener pastures.Massive fail!We won the Champions League shortly after that and he has travailed for years after as a journeyman.

If Torres decides to leave, goodluck to him.LFC will carry on, rebuild and win trophies!

The best players (the real legends) up their game and carry the weight of their teams on their shoulders:Pele with SANTOS,Maradona with NAPOLI,Gerrad with LIVERPOOL.

Torres has not been pulling his weight, he has not shown us the spirit, drive and determination that made him Atletico’s captain at such a tender age.

Liverpool is a challenge that he has to master to truly achieve his potential.Torres must become a leader, not just a goalscorer!

A fighter would realise that this is the time when heroes are made.

Is Torres a fighter? Is this the moment when he transcends from being a good player to being a great leader?

He has won everything in football except the champions league and league titles. If he wins them with Liverpool he becomes a team legend,if he wins anything at Chelsea he is just one of the boys.

    The choice is his.

  27. so torres asked lfc to consider his sale to chelsea according to sky sport news!!!well!!! he is a great striker but if he wants to move to chelsea!!!so be it but for £70 millions not below!!chelsea £35 millions bid for torres is disrespecful !!! as we always say no players is bigger than liverpool football club!!!

  28. Its rediculous the amount of stress and anguish the press can cause fans with ‘rumours’ then we go on saying HE SHOULD COME OUT AND RUBBISH THIS this is football, we are Liverpool football club and we are bigger than ANY player. I don’t believe this is true but if Torres goes it would only be because he wanted to and if a player wants to go, you get the most money you can for him.

Typical sky bullshit if you ask me, Torres is a scouser from Spain!

  29. Is it just a coincidence that a last minute offer comes in for Torres from Chelsea, a week before we travel to play them?

    I doubt it.

This has gamesmanship written all over it. What better way to unsettle the constant thorn in your side that just keeps scoring against you?

  30. Ha look at these Liverpool fans shaking in their pants at the news of torres leaving. It’s so funny.
What happens if he really joins us.

  31. if torres mistakenly leaves liverpool to chelsea, that means he is preparing to kill his career. Where is the position of benayoun in chelsea today. Pls torres dont go but stay and fulfill ur commitment to our lovely liverpool. Long leave anfield.

  32. pls some one should tell torres that money is not everything in life but where u will be happy. Liverpool is the right place for happiness.

  33. We’ll know sooner rather than later. The Suarez announcement will certainly lift the spirits but uncertainty re senor Torres is certainly clinging in the atmosphere.
The next few days are going to say a lot about him, I feel. Personally, I want him to stay. If he doesnt, then we are guaranteed top dollar. We want to retain our best players if we want to become genuine challengers again.
Maybe it’s a bit of a wind up. You never know.
On the other hand, given all the antics over recent years re- squad development, maybe it was to try and call LFC’s bluff and push them into splashing the cash.
The thought of Torres and Suarez with Stevie G not a million miles away is something that evokes dreams of becoming serious contenders once more, although we still need 1 or 2 more new faces. I’m sure the opposition wont be relishing the prospect though.
Well done, LFC for spending big today. I think I can speak for all when I say ‘let’s hope it was spent wisely’. His record certainly says so.
