Let’s move on

Posted by

The Torres deal is now done and dusted, and the move looked almost complete (apart from his medical) from around 6PM yesterday. When I first heard the news, I got that little fuzzy feeling you get in your stomach and I think that was because Fernando really attached himself to the fans in his time at Anfield. For some reason, many of us thought he would have the same levels of loyalty as Stevie and Carra, and stay here forever, but in reality that was never going to happen.

£50 Million is a hell of a lot of money, whichever way you put it. It’s a bid we just can’t turn down because as we all know, Fernando hasn’t been firing on all cylinders for a while now. But instead of looking at what we’ve lost, we need to focus on what we’ve gained.

We’ve bagged ourself a proven goal poacher in the form of Luis Suarez, and one of the most exciting prospects in the country, big Andy Carroll from Newcastle. Don’t forget these players are both young too, they turned 24 and 22 respectively this month, and I think it’s time we can all move on and make sure we push ourselves to the limit, and force our way back into the Champions League.

Only time will tell how Kenny’s first two signings will perform in the Red shirt, and how much we may or may not miss Torres.

  1. I feel sorry for Carroll – the lad never wanted to come to Liverpool and has been forced into a move.

The only thing worse than having a player on your books who doesn’t want to play for you is having a player on your books who NEVER wanted to play for you!

    Worrying.

  2. I’m not worried about Carroll. He will soon forget the past and embrace his new family once he hears the singing of The Kop

  3. @ Adam – It seems clear he didn’t want to leave Newcastle, but that is not the same as not wanting to come here.

Don’t forget he turned down the chance of going to Tottenham (allegedly) but was “keen” on a Liverpool move. I would guess that if he had to go, as has been suggested, then Liverpool would be the club, due to both the cities of Newcastle and Liverpool sharing marginal positions within British culture. Both clubs are also similar in terms of support, if not achievement!

I for one am pleased about Carroll coming in. I wish we could have held off until the summer and tried to get a better price, but needs must I suppose… Anyway, hopefully he and Suarez can link up well. We just need some quality wingers in in the summer, to provide width and crossing ability, and I think we can be considered challengers again.

  4. carroll hand a transfer request by himself..so he did want to play for liverpool..dont worry meireles+gerrard+carroll+suarez is gonna be hell of attacking option

  5. I think Nolan (a scouser) persuaded him into playing for us. Maybe Nolan wished that he was bought instead of Carroll. We enquired, and Newcastle agreed. Carroll did not hand in a transfer request, unlike a certain Spanish boy, meaning, the Newcastle management agreed willingly. The price was the only issue here.

  6. these look good transfer deals, all we need now is turan wolfswinkle adam in the summer. for me a good starting line up would be,
    reina
    kelly jc skirtle johnson
    suarez meireles sg turan
    carrol wolfswinkle

  7. torres is the past!!! lets hope we can stop talking about him now he’s gone!!we have two exciting strikers lets concentrate on them and give them the welcome they deserve!!!i’m not worried about caroll just leave him to the king to mould him in the team!!!
