Chelsea 0 Liverpool 1

Thanks to a solid team performance, excellent defending and plenty of attacking football we overcame Chelsea by a Raul Meireles goal to nil. To be honest Chelsea never really looked like scoring, especially in the second half.

The first half was solidly contested by both teams with both teams effectively cancelling the other one out, with the majority of the play being in the middle of the park. In the second half both teams seemed to be making more of an effort to try and go and actually win the game, but for the most part they ended up canceling each other out, as they had in the first half.

Indeed, just before the goal was scored I was convinced that this game was going to end in a nil-nil draw but then we broke forward and Meireles scored another well taken goal.

After that we defended our socks off right till the last minute and we fully deserved the victory. Chelsea had a few attempts on goal but still didn’t look any closer to scoring after we had taken the lead and we were able to ride the game out and take all three points.

Torres made his Chelsea debut and was mostly ineffective and he was substituted midway through the second half, much to the amusement of all Liverpool fans watching.

My only real disappointment in the game was that Suarez didn’t come on, not even for the last 15 minutes. Other than that it was a thoroughly enjoyable game of football which fair sped along.

  1. The lads played well, especially without a true striker the entire game. Kuyt’s grit; Meireles’ brilliant finish, and Kelly continues to get better in the back.

The only exception I would say is Maxi who is nothing short of worthless on the pitch. His incomprehensible miss yesterday is the fourth howler like that he’s blown this season. Honestly, I don’t understand how the man is a professional football, much less an “international” or playing for Liverpool.

  2. Adam, a nil, nil, was a hope for me too. reasons Torres did’nt score agaist us, and mostly Pepe kept his clean sheet, which Pepe did and a great result to boot.
The team did great, Carra’s tackle on Torres was class and a reminder to all those peaple who say he’s over the top,
over the top maybe but you won’t beat the grit determination and experience of the man.
Torres had one other chance in the opening minutes, and he blew it. Chelsea cocked up playing three strikers hoping to give us a right roasting, all three were on top of each other and we shut them out big style.
I counted at least nine pops at our goal in the last quarter mostly from midfielders, I would have liked to have seen us keep and pass the ball around like we done against Stoke.
Maxi’s miss was a howler, it would have sealed the game for us,it happens, we have all seen it before and will see it again, but hopefully not by our team.
lastly on all acounts this could have been a one all draw, Johnsons deliberate barge in the back on a chelsea player in the penalty area could have resulted in been awarded a penalty, it was stupid and not called for as Agger had already him covered.
Just imagine the result if Mr Webb had reffed the match,as it was we deserved all three points and we the redmen are rocking in sixth place and rising.
