Do We Still Need Charlie Adam or Wingers

Blackpool will allow Adam to leave in summer to bigger club. But Liverpool currently have the best formation with 3 midfielders, Stevie G, Lucas, and Raul with substitution like Poulsen and Shelvey and even Joe cole who likes to have central role. Then we still have Aquilani who will be back from loan.

Of course we all have seen the character of Adam with his “10m” corner kick. And yet he’s still 25 going 26 this year. We don’t know yet whether Aquilani wants to be sold to Juve or not, and will Poulsen leave in summer. While Kenny know so much about using the young talents, Aquilani has been the key player for Juve. He’s back on his form, and could be a good prospect once again for Liverpool.

Recent formation 5-3-1-1 shows that we can win without wingers. The Wing backs can do the attacking job pretty well but still we have 3 solid defenders in the back. Maybe Kenny made this formation to be specific since we don’t have wingers or I don’t know if Kenny have another formation if we do have wingers. But for me I like the 5-3-1-1 formation so much. We can still attack with our wing backs supported by the left or right central midfielder, effectively strong in our defense, and also fluid in our attack. I also become more confident that we can beat united, city, and arsenal, and spurs with this formation and wherever we play

So do we still need Charlie Adam and wingers?

  1. Honestly, I don’t see what the hype about Adam is about. He’s a good player, but nowhere near the kind of player that should play for Liverpool. Furthermore, he’s turning 26 next year. That’s two or three more years at his peak. At most. And NESV have said that want to invest in YOUTH. I’d be far more thrilled if we went after the likes of Hazard or Coentrão, for example.

  2. Aquilani deffo not going to stay at LFC, even if Juve dont make a bid for him…he has made that clear, sadly :(

  3. We never needed Adam, but wingers is a must, you have to have a flexible squad. 3 centre backs is too defensive if Liverpool are going to be top 4 again. This is just a temporary formation, Carrol and Suarez will fit into the team and Kuyt will go out wide again.

  4. To early to say that the formation where playing now means we don’t need anyone else. We’v only played two games with it.

  5. I think we could do with him.

Juventus has got the option to buy Aquilani, so if he’s on form they’ll snap him up. Poulsen’s looked a bit better under Kenny, but he’s too slow. Shelvey’s still a young lad, so we can’t expect too much from him.

What Adam would give us would be depth in the middle. He can pass the ball and has a bit of guile, which Meireles and Poulsen lack.

For five or six million, snap him up.

  6. Juve do have the option to buy Aquilani but only if they meet the agreed valuation (around £10.5m). If they don’t pay that then LFC can bring him back or sell him elsewhere. I think Acquman is a much better player then Adam and they’re about the same age. But I don’t think Acqu will want to play in prem again.

As for 3-5-1-1the King already said he will use whatever formation he feels necessary depending on the match and opponents so we can’t buy players just for one formation. Also having quality wingers is a must for any top club so we do need to invest in them.

I would like to Fabio Coentrao, Ashley Young and a solid defensive midfielder come in.

  7. I agree, I like Charlie Adam, I think he is a good player, but he wouldn’t be in our starting XI. Idk if Blackpool will significantly lower their valuation of him in the summer, but if we are paying 10m+, I want someone who will start. Also at blackpool it seems he is allowed to roam around the field wherever he wants.

I also agree that the new formation is great, but I’m skeptical about playing a team that actually knows how to attack it. I really think we could use 1-2 pacy wingers who can deliver crosses, especially once Carroll is fit, if for nothing else, just to give us the option of switching our formation.

  8. Aquilani will only go to Juve if they can afford the £10million they agreed to pay , I believe they are currently trying to negotiate that down as they are in a bit of financial trouble , and with the form he is in it would be madness to let him go for cheaper than that!

As for Adam, we never needed him, our current 3 of Stevie G Raul and Lucas was always going to be good enough they just were never deployed correctly together. Cole, Shevley and Spearing /Poulsen are good enough as backup. Plus if we get Eriksen that would be a better way of spending 10million.

Wingers and do we need them? Yes we do!

  11. Whatever the kind does, I hope he understands that strikers are strikers and doesn’t stick Suarez or Carroll on the wing. To be honest, I’m not sure what to do with the squad with wingers in it. Both Meireles and Gerrard are attacking midfielders, we will have two quality strikers, and maxi and kuyt are good on the wings…which basically leaves us with a 4-4-2 if we want to keep all these guys in their optimal positions. However, doing that leaves us with an outdated formation.

  12. 5-3-1-1 formation is best l ever see in my life nobody can break the format in the world sincerely speaking the king need back aquilani adam coentrao young or gelvehlo then the squad 2011/2012 reina kelly carr agger coentr adam gerrard meireles young carrol suarez sub kuty/aquilani/johnson/soto/aurelio. sell insua/jovanovic/maxi/j cole

  13. The current formation is not something magical that will continue to bamboozle opponents. The simple fact is that a 4-3-3 or, in particular, a 4-1-4-1 can quickly nullify a 4-5-1 variation. The popularity of the single forward is one of the reasons that we rarely see our current formation in the EPL.

It’s useful at the moment because our wingers don’t offer as much as our fullbacks, and teams aren’t really used to dealing with it. The Stoke result was good without us being particularly dangerous, while Chelsea put in a poor performance coupled with an unsuitable lineup. Our goal came just after they finally switched to a 4-3-3, and it allowed us to then keep our fullbacks deeper and see out the match with good defending.

We will need good wide players if we truly want to compete in the league. Adam would be a good addition to the team, and personally I think he offers more than anyone else who can slot into the centre (not including our starting 3).

  14. If we get Adam for the right price then I think he’d be a good signing but Blackpool are being greedy and demanding £12m for him, he’s worth half that at the most!

  15. Problem is Stevie G is’nt getting any younger and Adam whilst not a long term replacement could well get us over a couple of years. Injuries tend to become more frequent in older players especially in combative types like Stevie so Adam at the right price would be a good addition to the squad.
