… and what about N’gog?

Posted by

Bloody hell. I’ve just spent the last 48 hours trying to make my homework. But haven’t succeeded.

Why, you may want to know. Don’t worry, I’ll tell you, but promise me you aren’t going to laugh or anything, okey?

As I was trying to say, for the last two days, I’ve been thinking on one thing, and one thing only.

David N’gog.

No, not in that way many of you proboblay think (shame on you!).

No, the French lad I expected so much from when he first arrived in Liverpool, the young but promising kid that had scored so much for both the French U16, U17 and U18 teams. Just so he could come here and become our fourth choice? Because you deep down inside know that thats what he is in Liverpool – a poor fourth choice?

That got me really thinking, what can we do about it? Well, to start off, I’ve never been a fan of N’gog. I think he looks so lazy on the pitch,  reminds me a lot of Berbatov in United – besides the scoring part. Because we all know that N’gog hasn’t found the goal in quite some time in Liverpool. Despite that, I don’t see the greatness in him. We say that “he had not have the best players to work with”, but c’mon – did Fowler from the beginning have the 10 top players beside him?

I mean, for gods sake, we have been giving him a lot of time to play this season and I havent been “wowed” yet. He just looks so lazy on the pitch, doesnt fight for the ball, doesnt show any kind of fighting spirit at all – I mean, compared to Suarez, which we have seen work his ass off for us, Ngog doesn’t do much on the pitch. And that is the least I expect from Ngog, besides goals and assists ….

With that said, I wanna show you guys this.

Mancs:  Berbatov, Rooney, Hernandez, Owen

Arsenal:  Van Persie, Chamakh, Walcott, Bendtner

City:  Tevez, Dzeko, Balotelli, Jo

Spurs:  Van der Vaart, Crouch, Defoe, Pavlyuchenko

Chelsea:  Torres, Drogba, Anelka, Kalou

LFC:  Suarez, Carroll, Kuyt, Ngog

Yes, because despite of all the shit talk I’ve heard this season about LFC no longer being a member of the TOP 4 club, well, I got news for you. Our membership is like our spirit – it never ends.

But looking on that, it doesn’t look like we are allowed in the top 4 club anymore. Almost everyone of those other 4th strikers in the other teams, does it better then N’gog. It’s a shame really, that N’gog hasn’t grown to be tha player I thought he would be. Reminds me a lot of Babel – also a guy I thought would carry Liverpool on his shoulders if things were bad.

But a quality player always shows quality in those chances he gets, and maybe they have been few and not under the best circumstances – but as I said – quality player takes his chances.

So, what options do we have? The way I see it, we have three really diffrent options … And as always when I have to deal with a problem, I do a pros and cons list (Just like in the movies!)

… 1) Just let it be. No, I wasn’t aiming for the Beatles song, it’s just faith that that is really what one of the options are. Just let everything be as it is. Let N’gog develop in Liverpool, I mean after all, he is still quite young and he do have so good qualities, for example he sometimes do those channel runs that makes me catch my breath …

…2) Sell him. We can use that money, and to be fair, that 21 year old youngster still trying to become something, time is money and we can’t wait for ever, can we? Ngog is at the age now where he has got to be showing more, when does he stop being a kid with promise?

…3) Loan him out. Some possible clubs are Leeds, Forest, Swansea, but why not even Blackpool and score an alright deal with Charlie Adam when we are on it? And if we are lucky, N’gog devolps to bee a 3rd striker, and we could finally try to use a 4-3-3 on the pitch?

So, there you go. My personal favourite is number 3 – because it’s clearly a win-win situation for us. What do you guys think? Comment on this article, with a 1,2 or 3, and preferably make some kind of motavation on why you think like that – and we’ll see what LFC supporters all around the world think.

  1. 1) I would rather sell Kuyt who would probably still go for a decent amount and keep N’gog, who if given time to bulk up he could be a worthy 3rd or 4th choice. He has great pace and has shown great skill on occasion at taking players on.

Really I think his lack of strength is his biggest weakness, and that can be fixed over time. If he was stronger with a defender at his back his first touch would be better and he’d be able to hold up the ball better. Currently he is not suited to be a lone striker. I could see him fitting in to a 4-3-3 quite well though with Suarez on the left, Carrol through the middle, and N’gog out right where he’d have more room to run at players and not have to play with his back to goal so much.

If we sell him I don’t see us getting much for him. We could send him on loan but that leaves us short of forwards unless we bring in another quality striker or a couple of wingers who can also play up top.

  2. Look at his age vs the other four. He is a kid who is in this position because we dont have any depth whatsoever. He needs time. We should get another striker this summer and loan him out.

  3. In my opinion ngog will become our number 1 striker . Because he is only 21 and he is in progress now

  4. Well, to me the 4th striker for LFC is Pacheco. We should let him play more often.Release Ngog on loan will be good for the club and himself.

  5. N’Gog has scored some great goals for us in Europa, but agreed. He has been lackluster in the past few months. Thursday’s match was weak at best. He is still young and has some time to get into his form, but without consistent playing time he will not get it w/ LFC unless they loan him out. With the arrivals of Carrol and Suarez somebody has to take a back seat. I say loan him out to get more playing time and hopefully he comes back. Honestly how many headers does he win? How many off sides did he have the other day. Loan him out, get some XP and hopefully he’s not another Babel.

  6. #3 – I still think he’s got the potential, but sooooo lacks the experience right now. A glaring problem I see with him is that defenders know he can’t work his way out of their traps, especially if they double or triple team him. And they do. A lot. But as you say, his moments of brilliance are breath-taking.

  7. Loan him out for a year to a championship side, if he doesn’t improve sell him next summer. also, please look at 3rd chioce for each team on your list and you’ll see we still need another quality goalscorer….and a couple of wingers….and a left back….and a couple of centrehalfs….i could go on….

  8. We should just sell Ngog. I dont think he will ever become a great striker. Maybe he will become another Carlton Cole, bt i cant see him being better than Bent. So why should we keep him? He is a shit player. And that is a fact.
If we are trailing 0-1 with 10 minutes to go. Id rather have an injured Gerrard playing than a fit Ngog. With Gerrard i can be hopeful.

  9. sell him and bring back nathan ecclestone..much hardworking player to my liking plus in form too

  10. The boy was Gabbage on thursday. He always looks lost. A loan would be good ONLY IF its at a team where he’ll play day in day out. His goal against Arsenal was amazing but he’s been rubbish since then.

BTW,there’s gossip linking us to Affelay. We should Get him.

  11. I’ d sell kuyt and ngog to be honest. neither are proficient enough as strikers and neither are effective in wide roles. use the cash towards a quality winger

  12. Nezik, I would not ever want to get in an argument with you….you are so sweet! :-)
Personally I think N’Gog will never be of the standard expected of him. At Liverpool he will be an eternal sub. If anything, he should be loaned out to make experience and then valuate in the future.

  13. Now i dont normally reply to such things but i feel i must disagree whole heartedly about people mentioning kuyt as a possible player to leave anfield…are these people really watching him as a player ? i think not…his work rate off the ball and on it are second on to mr gerrard and that is fact….every single pundit raves about kuyt as a work horse and he gets the job done..yes he has not scored as often as we all know he can but look at were he has been playing…right wing left wing …only lately in the last couple of games has he been up top but ya cant expect miricles right away when ya have been plying ya trade for so long in another postion….i really think losing kuyt would be a travisty and i for one would be sad to see him go…and the main point about ngog…waste of time space and money in his development…let him go and look else were……ASHLEY YOUNG anyone……the end lol

  14. Shift him out .21 is no longer a developing potential .The future should be shaped at that age even if not finished and unfortunately he hasnt got it

  15. Agree wif u #17. if at age of 23 someone hv win the world best title for 2 times why shd we continue to deceive ourselves that Ngog is still young n he needs time. If he’s not old enough to play for our big team, send him to the academy to play. I fink he’ll fit in there. And those of u who are talking about Kuyt, if u really understand football n it’s roles u’ll never despise the role that talent play for LFC. YNWA.

  17. Yeah, the third option will be brilliant. Not only will it give him a chance to develop by getting regular starts, it will also boost his confidence if he does well.

  18. I get the impression that everyone got tired of berating Lucas, so now they’ve decided that N’Gog has to be the new target. He’s 21 years old and came in shortly before Torres’ injuries and form took a downward turn. All of a sudden this young, talented player was being called on to lead the line with a group of underperforming/lacking quality players behind him.

It takes time to adjust to the EPL, both mentally and phsyically. He doesn’t have the extreme height of someone like Crouch, nor does he have blistering pace. This means that he will need to bulk up (think of the change in C.Ronaldo for a reference) and learn how to be more physical.

There is an impatience gripping the world of football, seemingly born upon the back of players like Messi who reached their peak astoundingly quickly. Players can take until their early to mid-twenties to reach their level. A loan could be a good option but selling him would just be an absolute waste. There is definite potential and hopefully with all the club crap out of the way he, and the other players, can concentrate fully on their development.
