Hope for better times

In times like these, many of my thoughts goes to the people fighting for their rights. Just look at this picture and think about the man wearing the red shirt that brings us all together. Look how proudly he is wearing it, even though he is in the middle of a war.

He proboblay got problems, while we are watching the game on Sunday against Manchester United, he maybe is searching for his family or looking for some food for his children or maybe even he is looking for a place he could spend the night.

  1. Amazing! Nice tv cap! Well for all the distressed fans out there, wishing you a speedy recovery! YNWA

  2. He’s in a war zone, the shirt was probably a freebie from a Charity. Many Liverpool fans have donated their old shirts (or new shirts with Torres on the back) to charity and they are handed out to hard-up foreigners, he probabaly isn’t a Liverpool fan or even gives a toss about Liverpool, but was given a free shirt which he wears everyday as he has little else.

  3. YNWA – Egypt, Tunisia, Libya. This man love Liverpool FC , this man is one of us. GOD – safe this world!

  4. Xile – I don’t think he is just wearing it because it was handed to him. Don’t treat and think about people in Libya that way, many of them actually do follow Premier League just as we do. I’ve been down to Iraq many times – during war – and believe me, the people I saw with LFC-shirts werent “just wearing them”. For gods sake, one guy showed up to his brothers wedding in his LFC-shirt.

  5. @ xile.dont talk like a damn fool.that is not the liverpool way.what if it was u born in that part of of the world???

  6. Why is everyone assuming the guy in the Liverpool shirt is a Liverpool fan, and why is it outrageous to think the shirt was a charitable donation? there are charities that (from donations) give 2nd hand shirts to people from deprived backgrounds, I am not making this up (after all it is last seasons shirt).

@ Martin, you tell me not to “talk like a damn fool” (Nice Mr-T impression by the way), then you say “what if it was u born in that part of the world???”, now that is foolish! Well to answer you bizzare question; If I was born in that part of the world (which I’m not by the way, just make that clear), I would definitely not appear on TV in last seasons shirt! I would have a wash, then go out and buy a shiny new shirt (probably with Suarez printed on the back, and have EPL patches on the sleeves), then and only then would I be suitably dressed to appear on TV, oh and don’t forget to smile. There’s no point going to all that effort then to look miserable.

  7. @xile Your big head must be in a gutter somewhere, U think everyone can afford such a “luxury” item as u indicated? Liverpool fans comes from all walks of life… some of them are poor, Not everyone can afford to wear the latest Liverpool jersey! In a war thorn country like Libya now, do you think you can afford to smile! Gosh…why the heck do i respond to a so called fan like you…I rest my case … Have a heart dude…You make me sick!

Oh by the way…. oh never mind…i rest my case!

  8. @ Gem, Of course he can afford a “luxury item” after all, it is ludicrous to suggest that his shirt was a charitable donation, right? O hang on a sec, he’s from Libya so it must be a counterfeit shirt, well he is poor so that’s okay then, right?

Just because the guy is from Libya, everyone has assumed that he is a penniless scrounger and has nothing but the shirt on his back, funny.

Oh Gem, you are right, the guy in the Photo from Libya must be a bigger fan than me, after all I do go to games and pay for my shirts. For anyone who has never been to Anfield on a European night (which lets be honest is most of you) here is a little video I took on my phone last Thursday night, Enjoy.

  9. We’ll ALL be in it together very soon.I believe that we’ll be getting down in the streets of England within the next five years when the Banks and the other shadowy greedy dick heads that REALLY run the country finally strip us of everything, therefore leaving us with nothing left to lose.Indeed i see this happening all over the world soon.My thoughts are with this brother of ours and i wish him all the luck in the world in fighting the good fight..When you walk through a storm indeed…

  10. Look closer. He wears another shirt inside the jersey. If that jersey is a charity material, why would he wears it while he already had a shirt of his own? YNWA.

  11. People like Xile is a war seeker n has no sense of peace in him. Despite the fact that we some times throw foul words against other we still hv one precious thing in common; we regard n respect each other. I wonder why he calls himself a Red. I don’t think he bleeds red, maybe blue or even black. Reds are humans but he is inhuman.
What is your point if he’s less privilege n he’s wearing the shirt as result of him being dashed n don’t any other shirt to wear? This is absolutely numskull. Take a look at the picture again, see how neatly is iron n worn. Do u keep yours as neat as this? People like u support the team with evil intentions n it’s bring bad omen to our precious club. Africans forms part of the thousands of fans LFC hv n it’s a fact. Even In war we still lift high the banner of LFC. ……… Soooooo lovely, how patriotic we are. This what u jealous of us n is making u spit those rubbish.

Mr writter congratulation! The best article on the KOP so far. Well done Keshto. YNWA.

  12. @ Samuel Osei Anokye, I’m pretty sure if I cut myself I would bleed red, if it was any other colour I would be very worried, a severe blood infection perhaps?

Samuel Osei Anokye, I have been a Liverpool supporter for the last 30 years, witnessed some great times and some very dark times. I have even been to Anfield (on many occasions). I can get in my car and be in Liverpool in 90 minutes, can you?

I’m looking at the picture and looking how this guy is wearing his shirt, I’m sure it’s not that well ironed. Look at the stomach area, it looks a little creased to me. Besides, I wouldn’t iron my shirt for the fear of melting it with the iron. I wash my shirts on a cool wash (30 degrees is okay), when washed remove it from the machine, place it on a clothes hanger and let it dry naturally. Providing you have used a good quality fabric conditioner it will not require ironing. Once dry place it neatly in the wardrobe until required. So my answer to your question Mr Anokye, No I don’t keep my shirts as neat as his, I keep it much neater and summer fresh.

Oh, you say I’m jealous of not being an African fan, er…No, I prefer to live in the same country as my club, I like to feel connected and not thousands of miles away, dreaming about the day that I might be able to visit Anfield, but deep down knowing that it will never happen. So sad :-(

Finally, I’m not a war seeker. Wars on foreign shores have nothing to do with me; they can destroy themselves if they wish but I don’t seek it or care for it. I am fortunate to live in a peaceful country (England), it‘s a shame that England feels the need to get involved in everyone’s arguments, which I don’t agree with.

    YNWA

  13. xile – while some of your points I can agree with, I think it’s a bit childish to be continually baiting people here, especially based on their inability to see matches when living in another country entirely.

“I am fortunate to live in a peaceful country (England)”

Since you have been following LFC for 30+ years you are clearly old enough to know better and should also have realised by now that England is far from peaceful, yes we aren’t currently in a civil war, but to call our country peaceful is blinkered at best.

You should also understand that if LFC fans only came from Liverpool or within a “90 mile” radius we’d be one of the most poorly supported clubs in the country!!! It is our worldwide fan base that is part of the reason we have a reputation as once of the biggest clubs in the world (granted that’s due to earlier success), not because 44k fans turn up at Anfield every home game. LFC has a well deserved reputation as a family club with excellent moral values, hopefully you will remember that and embrace it, we are all better people for it!

    GC

  14. @ GeniusChrist, I personally think it is fair to say England is a peaceful country. As you say we are not at civil war, mobs are not trying to overthrow the government, tanks do not line our streets and the blitz ended 67 years ago. I have the freedom to go where I want, when I want and do not have to be worried about going out at night.

I’m not sure what you mean when you say our country is not peaceful, are your referring to the student riots, or the fact that our soldiers are fighting a pointless war in Afghanistan? All I know is where I live, neither myself, my family nor friends are at threat and we all live peacefully. I therefore declare England a nation of peace, it may not be perfect but it is generally peaceful.

You are right; Liverpool is a family club. Testimony to that is when I was at the Sparta game last week there was a guy next to me who bought along is 7 year old son to see his first game, which was nice to see.

As for foreign fans, they have the right to be a fan of any club they choose, but I draw the line at someone living in Africa telling me that I am not a true Red, that can’t be right, can it?

The reason I posted to begin with is I thought the article was a little patronising. Just because the guy is from Libya, it was assumed that he was poor, scrounging for food and had nowhere to sleep. I have been to Tunisia (Albeit in 5* Luxury), but I did make the effort to spend 3 days travelling the country and meeting the people, most of them do not have much, but the last thing they want is our pity.

  15. @Xile and other who think that only those who live in Liverpool were have the right to be LFC fans, I only has two word for you: F… You!!!!! Just because you can go to anfield and watch it live and you mock fans that didn’t have a chance, how disgrace!!! Fxxk you Xile!!!! put your real name if you dare!!!!

  16. @ Henry Ezra Ong, A bit harsh. I quote myself….

“As for foreign fans, they have the right to be a fan of any club they choose”

What I do object to Mr Ong, is fans from abroad telling me that I am not a true supporter, just because I do not share your romantic notions of what it is to be a Liverpool supporter. When I see a stranger in the street wearing a Liverpool shirt, I do not go up to him and greet him like a long lost brother, nor do I feel the need to hug every supporter I see at Anfield, I certainly don’t get excited everytime I see someone on TV wearing the shirt.

I love the club, I always have done, but I don’t feel the need gush about, or justify to myself nor prove to others what is to be a Red, I am one and thats a fact.

  17. @xile, bla bla bla, what’s your real name again? no real name, you probably just trolling around, bleh

  18. Why do you want know my real name, your not one of those internet fraudsters are you? there’s plenty of them about you know, but I guess you already know that, it’s amazing what you can get for a few shillings these days ;-)
