LFC & Standard Chartered help fight malaria

To mark World Malaria Day on 25th April, Standard Chartered has teamed up with Malaria No More UK to offer fans ultimate Liverpool FC experiences.

A child dies from malaria every 45 seconds but Standard Chartered, Liverpool FC’s main sponsor, are helping tackle the disease head on.  Malaria No More UK is part of a global movement to reach near zero deaths from malaria by 2015.

The charity saves lives through high-impact awareness and fundraising campaigns and by making strategic investments in Africa where over 90% of all malaria deaths occur.

To mark World Malaria Day on 25thApril, Standard Chartered and Liverpool FC are supporting an online charity auction on website givinglots.co.uk.  Several once-in-a-lifetime Club related experiences are up for grabs including an ultimate Liverpool FC weekend and a chance to be a Liverpool FC mascot!  Money raised will benefit the work of Malaria No More UK, who have already supported mosquito net distribution and malaria education campaigns in Ghana, Botswana and Namibia that have helped protect over two million people.

Your bid could save lives. £500 is enough to recruit and train ten local volunteers to be Malaria Agents in Northern Namibia.  Volunteers are often based in remote hard-to-reach areas and will provide life-saving malaria prevention information to their community – for instance demonstrating how to use a mosquito net. Volunteers, once trained can go on to provide this vital support to an estimated 1,000 vulnerable people.

Standard Chartered and Liverpool FC are helping to make malaria no more.   You can get involved too by placing your bids in the online auction at malarianomore.org.uk/liverpoolfc-auction
