Liverpool start their Premiership campaign at Anfield on Saturday and the fixtures may have
fallen kindly on Liverpool with Sunderland being the opponents on the season opener.
Sunderland have been extremely active this summer bringing in no less than nine players
so this might be the time to catch them before they are all completely settled in and
established within the team. Even at their best, Sunderland are always going to struggle at
Anfield which is one of the hardest away grounds in the country, that is why Liverpool make
plenty of appeal at with only a couple of new players set to start. The draw is the next most
likely result at 10/3 whilst Sunderland look very unlikely winners at 7/1.
There could be a bit of value in over 2.5 goals here, it is unlikely to be very high scoring but
three goals looks the most likely return from the two sides. Over 2.5 goals can be backed at
10/11 with most bookies. Liverpool are capable of scoring all of the goals in the game so a
clean sheet should be backed at 11/10, alternatively at bigger odds you can back Liverpool
to win to nil at 6/4.
In the correct score market 3-0 could be the best call at 10/1 whilst those who aren’t so
confident about there being over 2.5 goals might want to back 2-0 at 13/2. If we are backing
plenty of goals, then we should try and figure out who the scorers will be. The bookies make
Luis Suarez the favourite at 4/1 but we might see him doing his best work outside the box on
many occasions this season which makes Andy Carroll good value to open the scoring at 9/2.
He also appeals as a bet to score at anytime at 13/10. Those with more confidence in Andy
Carroll’s ability could get a good bit of value from backing the big man to get a hat trick on
the first day of the season, this is a huge price at 28/1 currently.
