Lucas vs Bolton [video]

Here is another great video submitted by @hikarihikki showing the work rate of Lucas Leiva in yesterday’s game. He might not do any fancy step overs or samba dancing with the ball however it shows why the young Brazilian has become a regular in the Brazil and Liverpool starting XI.

  1. Antoine. Lucas is a brazilian player in the Dunga mould. Very unbrazilian in a way. He is now the established holding midfielder for Liverpool and Brazil. Not bad for someone many Liverpool fans (who love the Club but know little about football) wanted sold only 12 months ago!

  2. Liked him from the beginning. After all, Rafa saw something in him and he captained the Brazil u/21 side. Just so happy he is proving the doubters wrong, including the British press. Nice lad too!

    1. I guess your nick says it all!

This is what I wrote in December 2009:

”Going back to Lucas! The kid is barely 21 years old, and whatever he lacks in quality and maturity he tries to make up in commitment and passion. At least he is one of the few that has been really trying. He may not be top notch, he may not be a Fabregas if you like, but you only get a Fabregas every 1000 midfielders (meaning players that are a talent and a few notches above everyone else by the time they are 17 years old). Lucas is not the player to be shown the door, he will be needed in the future, but at present, the team certainly needs more quality in midfield, and Aquilani has that quality, a sample of which was on display against Wolves.”

      Was I one of them?

  3. Easily MOM for me. I was one of the few that used to stick up for him. Simply because he took loads of stick but never complained and just got on with it. Now in my opinion he is better than Mascherano, because he doesn’t give as many fouls away, and his passing is better. He would get in any team now and even when Stevies back he will probably be the first one on the team sheet for midfield.

    1. I totally agree! Too nany people focus on the forward half, but Lucas won everything his way! He broke up play and passed the ball with precision!

  4. Lucas would be one of the first names on my team sheet every week, with out a doubt he is pure quality and is essential to our midfield. LUCAS YNWA !!!!!!!!!!

  5. No doubt Lucas is our Chief Midfield interceptor and Jay Spearing is looking up to him in terms of learning and acquiring experience from Lucas..

  6. The only reason i love him as a player is because despite our critism of him though he know his own quality and also that he can perform elsewhere he wants to play for us and love this club, he did everything to remain with us unlike aquilani who is always looking for every possible means to get out of this club.

  7. YNWA Lucas!
his contribution was immense like any other game recently …
    thanks for the link Ant.

  8. Hopefully everyone will learn how not to treat new signings ie Henderson by the way Lucas was treated for years. Give the young players time to gain experience no matter what the price tag

    1. Totally agree, it seems if you are a scouser you get the time and even when they make mistakes but a forign youngster does not get the same support.

Other players have shown that given time and support that they can perform better. ie petit & Pires when they first arrived at Arsenal weren’t great.

  9. He will be the next didi hamman for us….. very hardworking doesn’t bother about grabbing headlines just goes about his work humbly….. I believe he will become one of our greatest playes…. thanks Rafa for bringing us the gem.

  10. I adore this fella, i remember a few years ago a fella in a pub said im mad coz i thought lucas was brilliant, well i think i post this on his Facebook because hes some player these days!!

  11. Even our captain fantastic have a poor start to his liverpool carrier. The most important thing is that he’s here now, loyal and commited to the success of the club. Beside those times is a test for him and am sure most liverpool fans now know where his loyalty lies. Kudos Lucas, you’ll never walk alone.
