Liverpool take on West Brom this weekend and after a couple of disappointing results in recent weeks this looks to be a must win match if Liverpool are to remain favourites to finish in the top four, especially with Newcastle, Spurs and Arsenal continuing to pick up points. This certainly isn’t an easy match though so it would be a big win if Liverpool can take all three points.
Liverpool are the favourites for this match but West Brom have produced the better results recently, they made a slow start to the season but have since gone four games without loss, winning their last two matches. Liverpool are available at evens to win this match, a big price compared to the odds Liverpool are for most matches but perhaps a little short considering Liverpool’s away struggles over the past year or so. From the beginning of last season Liverpool have played 23 away games in the Premiership and they have won just seven of those but been on the losing end of the result a huge thirteen times.
All of this suggests that perhaps this could be one of the games to oppose Liverpool in, although it should be close at least, the draw isn’t a bad bet at 5/2 whilst it would be disappointing to lose, West Brom are 16/5 to win this one. West Brom won this fixture last season, Roy Hodgson gained a win over his former team but previously Liverpool had dominated in this fixture, the previous two encounters had finished 2-0 to Liverpool whilst the other two games in the Premiership at the Hawthornes were 5-0 and 6-0, those scores this time around are 125/1 and 425/1!
Liverpool aren’t prolific at the moment but at the same time are struggling for clean sheets and that seems to be the main reason for recent dropped points, just one clean sheet in the last nine games would point to both teams scoring being one of the best bets of this game and it perhaps the banker for this match at 5/6, whilst over 2.5 goals is almost as tempting a bet at even money currently. One of the most popular bets for this match is sure to be Luis Suarez to get on the scoresheet, he is Liverpool’s top scorer in the Premiership this season with four goals, no other player is yet to even score twice in the league so Suarex looks a good bet to score both the first goal at 19/4 and to score anytime at 11/8.
Liverpool are no longer the clear favourites to finish in the top four which makes this match all the more important, most bookies now make Liverpool the 5/4 joint favourites for the top four alongside Spurs whilst Arsenal are closing the gap and are down to 12/5 at the time of writing.
