Following our excellent result at Stamford Bridge and the reserves 5-1 romp at the cost of Sunderland on Monday, we host high-rolling Manchester City at Anfield this Sunday.
City are currently at the top of the table and are five points clear of Manchester United, many Premiership betting organisations have City as favourites to collect all three points against us. On Tuesday the Citizens suffered an away defeat to Napoli which has put their Champions League campaign in a tailspin and they will be looking to bounce back from this setback and focus on the Premier League.
The race for the top four is more fierce than ever and Kenny Dalglish is not surprised about this, in his latest press conference he admitted “Apart from the positions of the teams, I don’t think there is much of a surprise. It is only Newcastle that you would have said, which has been a pleasant surprise for the Geordies. They will be delighted they are up there in the hunt for it.”.
The Reds now have an eleven game unbeatable streak and against City I am sure we will continue that. I believe that Kenny Dalglish will opt for the same eleven that started against Chelsea. He is also very mindful that we have the Carling Cup Quarter Final just 48 hours after the City game. Steven Gerrard and Jack Robinson are the only players not available. Kenny is currently very happy with the squad depth and told the Liverpool Echo
“Some people look at it as a form of punishment asking them to play for the reserves but that’s certainly not the case.
“It was a necessity and it’s important we give everyone opportunities to play matches.
“For the likes of Seb and Jay, it gives them the chance to get match fit and they did well. We need a strong squad with players who are ready to step in when they’re needed.”
Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger have been doing a tremendous job in central defence and this will likely leave Jamie Carragher on the bench for a second consecutive game. I think that Jamie will captain the Reds in midweek when we travel to Stamford Bridge again however.
Predicted Lineup :
Starting XI : Pepe Reina, Jose Enrique, Glen Johnson, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger, Lucas Leiva, Charlie Adam, Dirk Kuyt, Maxi Rodriguez, Craig Bellamy, Luis Suarez.
Subs : Doni, Downing, Carroll, Carragher, Henderson, Kelly, Spearing.
