I received the letter below from Darryl, he is a Scouse Expat living in Guernsey. If you are experiencing the same issue please leave a comment below.
I live in Guernsey in the Channel Islands and am a member of the Guernsey branch of the LFC supporters club. I try and get to Anfield as and when I can as we have no professional football in the island and the best we have play at Step 5 in the Combined Counties League, plus I have been a fan since I was 6 years of age…
I emailed the supporters club a few weeks ago to find out what entitlement we were getting this season and heard nothing. I phoned them yesterday and basically at this stage its very unclear. At the moment all they will be getting is the ability to apply for 4 lots of 20 tickets for the whole season (i.e. just four matches)! With no guarantee that they will get any. This is very much different to previous seasons when they seemed to get a small amount for most matches, possibly with the exception of the Man Ure one. The season before last I went to Man City at home with no problems.
They have appealed to the club along with all the other branches but I don’t know how far they will get.
I paid around £30 again to be a member of the FanClub thingy and a small yearly amount for the Guernsey branch and it looks like I could well end up with nothing for around £40. I don’t know what has changed this season compared to previous seasons as the ground is still the same size! It does seem that politics and money are becoming more and more important to LFC and sod the lifelong fans like me. I wish I could watch Liverpool every week but due to my location I cant..
To leave things so much up in the air just weeks before the start of the season is a bit crap and to change things without any good reason does seem very unfair. I really wanted to come to Liverpool at the start of the season whilst the weather is good but of course need to book travel soon otherwise I will miss out. I have to get the boat to Poole and then drive up as that’s the best way to travel for me. I love coming to Liverpool not only for the football but also for the Scousers who are without doubt the nicest and best people of the planet. My Aunt came from Liverpool and despite living here for 20 years she still had her thick Scouse accent!
On the 17th I know I can apply for a ticket via the website so will of course give that a go, but I guess my chance will be quite limited?
I did enquire at Thomas Cook travel agent and they want just over £300 for a ticket and one night in a hotel…
Thanks for listening to my moan, I do enjoy reading the various articles you write, so keep up the good work.
