Progression

The first game of the season, I, as im sure fans worldwide counted down the days, hours, minutes to this game and believing we would take the 3 points. However it turned into a 3-0 thrashing, embarrassing and hard to swallow was the defeat. We looked so out of place, almost as if football was a new game to some of them and i personally thought to myself “this is going to be a long season”.

However, the hunger and passion returned against Manchester City at home and as the season progressed some of the football we have played has been breath taking, yet at times so average. We seemed to had solved the problem of goals with Luis Suarez scoring 23 premier league goals, ahead of Robin Van Persie until the ban at the end of the season. – but then we conceded goals, which last season was the opposite. Jamie Carragher was put back into the squad for Martin Skrtel and that seemed to give us some solidity, control and experience within the defence and certainly helped our season.

January came, Joe Cole was sold to west ham and Daniel Sturridge was bought from Chelsea along with Philippe Coutinho from Inter Milan for an absolute steal of around 8 million pounds. Daniel Sturridge got off to a flying start scoring 10 goals in 13 games, and Philippe Coutinho has left us wondering what sort of talent we have here, his eye for a pass and technique on the ball left me stunned at times, both of these new signings where part of the fantastic group goal against swansea, a personal highlight of mine. The link up play between Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez was at times phenomenal and the team seemed a lot more balanced.

Overall, i think with our current signings and hopefully a few more, we can push on next season. I do not want to pile the pressure on to much by saying 4th, however i believe that we can push for that spot and hopefully the players can begin where they left off last season.
