Daniel Sturridge injury: Liverpool striker travels to Madrid…

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers could be preparing to take a huge Champions League gamble, by rushing striker Daniel Sturridge back from injury in time for Tuesday’s game with Real Madrid.

Reports in the Guardian reveal that the England international traveled with the rest of the squad to the Spanish capital on Monday, as the team prepares for their crucial European match-up.

Sturridge has not played for Liverpool since 31 August and last week Rodgers suggested that the 25-year-old would be absence for Tuesday’s trip to the Bernabéu as well as Saturday’s visit of the Premier League leaders, Chelsea.

But Sturridge was pictured with his Liverpool team-mates on board the squad’s flight to the Spanish capital and, with the Reds having lost their last two Champions League matches and currently third in Group B, he may be in line for a shock return.

The former Manchester City and Chelsea forward scored 24 goals for the club last season, in stark contrast to the likes of Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert, who are struggling to replicate that form during the current campaign.

However, Sturridge may also be travelling in a non-playing capacity, with Rodgers known to involve players who have been on the sidelines for long spells in squads.
