Revealed: Alexis Sanchez chose Arsenal despite Liverpool offering more

Liverpool offered a higher transfer fee and wages for Alexis Sanchez…

Spanish publication Sport have claimed that Alexis Sanchez chose Arsenal over Liverpool this summer, despite the Reds offering the Chilean midfielder higher wages, and making a superior transfer bid to the player’s former club Barcelona.

Sanchez has quickly become a vital part of the Arsenal set up since his switch to North London, after Brendan Rodgers tried unsuccessfully to recruit the World Cup star, even trying to bring him to the club as part of the Luis Suarez deal.

The 25-year-old allegedly asked his old employers to accept Arsenal’s €42m bid rather than Liverpool’s €46m offer, and the player subsequently completed his £35m move to the Emirates Stadium on a contract worth somewhere in the region of £150,000 per week.

Living in London was a priority for the pacey forward, while regular Champions League football was also a decisive factor. He has certainly been delivering on the pitch for Arsenal, with ten goals this campaign already.

In stark contrast Liverpool’s summer acquisition Mario Balotelli is yet to find the net in the Premier League, while the Italian’s Anfield teammates – Fabio Borini, Rickie Lambert and Daniel Sturridge – have just one league goal between them as the fallout from Suarez’s £75m departure continues.

Fans will be hoping that the latter’s seemingly imminent return to fitness could help lead a Reds revival over the busy Christmas period. Sturridge was part of the Liverpool squad which flew to Madrid on Monday, ahead of Tuesday’s vital Champions League clash.
