Iker Casillas transfer: Real Madrid have privately told goalkeeper that he is free to leave…

Premier League rivals Liverpool and Arsenal have been put on red alert, after news leaked out that Spanish giants Real Madrid are openly look to sell goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

According to reports in Spain, Casillas has been told by the club’s hierarchy that his contract will not be renewed, and that they would prefer to sell him at the end of the season if possible.

The source adds that Casillas had been hopeful of renewing his contract, but with the club clearly not interested, he is not willing to sit around next season as backup either, meaning that a transfer would be ideal for both parties.

This has alerted long-term admirers Arsenal and Liverpool, with the latter particularly desperate to land a new stopper capable of challenging Simon Mignolet for the number one spot.

However, Brendan Rodgers’ side are still likely to face competition from the Gunners, who saw summer recruit David Ospina suffer an immediate injury, putting him out for a length of time.

Liverpool had previously shown interest in another Spanish veteran, former Barcelona man Victor Valdes, but that deal now looks to be off with Manchester United believed to be closing in on his signature.
