Liverpool signing Patrick Roberts: ‘English Lionel Messi’ on verge of Anfield switch…
Liverpool look the favourites to beat Arsenal and Chelsea to the signing of Fulham’s highly-rated teenage sensation Patrick Roberts, who has been dubbed the ‘English Lionel Messi’ after a series of impressive performances.
According to the Daily Mirror, Roberts has been impressive upon his introduction to the Fulham first-team, and has also wowed for England at youth level, attracting interest from a number of top clubs.
The Reds are known for bringing in top young talent, and look set to step up their efforts to bring this exciting young Englishman to Anfield in the January transfer window.
Arsenal and Chelsea were also believed to be interested, but the source believes that Liverpool are now close to landing their man, with the Reds willing to send Roberts back to the Championship club on loan.
Fulham are desperate to keep Roberts, who still has two years left on his current deal. But the 17-year-old has been scouted by Liverpool three times this season having been fast-tracked into the Championship side’s plans, and looks to be sorely tempted by the prospect of a move.
