Martin Montoya transfer: Liverpool on red alert over Barca defender…

Liverpool have reportedly been placed on red alert over the possibility of bringing Barcelona defender Martin Montoya to Anfield in January, according to reports on talkSport.

Luis Enrique, who took over as manager of the Spanish giants earlier this year, has seemingly informed the 23-year-old that he is surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp, and told him that he will be allowed to leave the club.

That news comes despite the player still having over four years left to run on his existing contract, and the disgruntled Spanish youth international is now likely to seek an exit from the club in January.

According to the source, the right-back is likely to be available on the cheap or on loan in the New Year, which could tempt long-time admirers Liverpool to swoop for his services.

Montoya, who has come through the youth system at Barca and made 38 first-team appearances, has rarely ventured outside the club’s reserve ranks in each of the last two seasons, playing regularly for Barcelona B, but has won two La Liga titles with the Catalans.

Any potential move could spell the end of Glen Johnson’s time at Liverpool. The experienced England international has regularly been linked with a move away from Anfield in recent times, while manager Brendan Rodgers also has Javier Manquillo and Jon Flanagan at his disposal in the right-back position.
