Italian giants to take Glen Johnson off Liverpool’s hands

Serie A side Roma fancy the ageing right-back…

AS Roma are the latest club rumoured to be interested in Glen Johnson, one of Liverpool’s highest paid players, reports the Daily Star.

Inter Milan and Juventus have already been touted as potential suitors, but now fellow Italian side Roma are being most prominently linked with his services.

The 30-year-old right-back is on £110,000 per week, but is unlikely to be offered an extension on the deal which expires in the summer.

As a result, clubs are freely allowed to approach Johnson come the turn of 2015, which is just six weeks away.

If a deal was reached, Johnson would join Roma during the summer of next year – and Liverpool would almost certainly try and sign a  replacement.

Most fans wouldn’t be too sad to see Johnson move on, even for no transfer fee. Only Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge are paid more than Johnson, who is by no means an automatic starter anymore.

We’ve been linked to Barcelona defender Martin Montoya, who could arrive on loan during the January transfer window – whether Johnson leaves or not.
