Brendan Rodgers lauds Kolo Toure & Lucas

Veterans have helped transform in recent weeks…

Brendan Rodgers has rightly praised the contribution of both Kolo Toure and Lucas following their recent performances.

The pair were Liverpool’s two best players against Ludogorets, and the two best against Stoke City at Anfield on Saturday as well.

“I’m very happy with their performances,” Rodgers told the official website.

“I think their contribution has been vital in the last two games. They are players who understand the league, players who are experienced and players who are winners. Both have been outstanding and they haven’t played a great deal, but they’ve come into the team and done very well.”

As a result of Toure’s recent form, £20m Croatian Dejan Lovren may struggle to get back into the side. The struggling defender could do with some time out of the team however, having endured a miserable start to life with us.

Lucas’s performances in the anchorman role though give Rodgers a bigger selection headache: how to get Steven Gerrard back into the side.

The Brazilian deserves the deep-lying midfield role right now, but this means that Gerrard will have to play slightly advanced of him in a midfield three if he’s to be recalled.

This means that one of either Jordan Henderson or Joe Allen will have to make way for the skipper, who’ll no doubt be chomping at the bit for a start against Leicester City on Tuesday night.
