New York Red Bulls have made Steven Gerrard their no.1 transfer target, reckons the Telegraph

Our skipper is wanted by MLS franchise…

New York Red Bulls hope that their director of football Gerard Houllier’s strong relationship with Steven Gerrard will help them convince our legendary midfielder to sign, reports the Telegraph.

Houllier gave Gerrard his debut back in 1998, and our skipper is known to rate the former Liverpool manager highly.

Gerrard’s contract expires at the end of this season, and while we’ve offered him terms on an extension, he’s yet to sign; with rumours beginning to circulate that h’s considering his options.

The MLS franchise have Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill leaving, and they want to bring in some high profile replacements, and have named Gerrard as a number one priority…

However, Liverpool will surely do all they can to convince Gerrard to stay, and he really doesn’t seem like the kind of player who would be interested in a lucrative move to America – especially with young children currently growing up in Liverpool.
