Daily Star stupidly claims ‘Liverpool are finalising £10m Fernando Torres deal’

Dubious reports emerge from tabloid…

Tabloid newspaper the Daily Star reckons that Liverpool are on the verge of concluding a £10m deal for Fernando Torres. We, on the the other hand, are pretty sure that’s not the case…

The report claims that because AC Milan are keen on terminating the loan deal for the struggling striker, we’d be willing to offer the Blues money for his services this January.

It’s important to remember that Chelsea essentially released Torres on a free transfer… This summer, he had two years left on his contract, and signed a two-year loan deal with AC Milan. When the loan deal expires, Torres will be unattached, and available to sign for any club on a free – proving that Chelsea were happy to simply get him off their wage bill and never see him again – without receiving a transfer fee.

Chelsea couldn’t demand £10m for Torres now, and we certainly wouldn’t pay it, either. He’s 30-years-old, and has scored just 21 league goals in four seasons. Sadly, the Spaniard has been in decline ever since he left us, and with the criticism the club has received following their summer transfer policy, a £10m bid for Torres seems practically impossible.

What’s more, FSG have continually shown that they will only spend proper money on younger players with a potential to improve or at least generate a future transfer fee in sales. Torres ticks neither of these boxes.
