Daily Express ridiculously names nine Liverpool transfer targets, worth over £100m combined

Countless players thrown into Liverpool transfer rumour hat…

The worst paper in Britain for spurious transfer rumours, the Daily Express, has botched out this piece today about Liverpool’s January plans…

It names nine potential winter window targets, including a crazy £50m bid Real Madrid’s totally unavailable superstar Karim Benzema…

Other targets apparently include unattached goalkeeper Victor Valdes and £3m rated Malaga and Mexico keeper Guillermo Ochoa.

In defence, they reckon we want Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya, who has a £16m release clause. This is if we can’t sign Southampton’s Englishman Nathaniel Clyne, while Celtic’s £10m rated Virgil van Dijk is also a target at centre-back.

It’s up top where the links become increasingly tedious, however. Fernando Torres’s name is mentioned, as is Alexandre Lacazette’s – although to be fair – they mention that both are unlikely.

According to the report, if the £50m Benzema deal doesn’t happen, we’ll turn to CSKA Moscow’s Seydou Doumbia for £20m.

If the Express are to be believed (they really shouldn’t be), Rodgers is allowed to sign three of this wish-list in January, but we wouldn’t take too much of what they have to say too literally…
