Raheem Sterling is set to sign a long-term deal with Liverpool that should see him dramatically boost his wages, Sky sources understand.

The 20-year-old has probably been our best player this term, and his form has earned the attention of Real Madrid, the world’s biggest club.

While his chances of playing time would be heavily reduced at the Bernabeu, rumours of a £35m bid have not gone away, but it now seems like the English phenomenon will be committing his future to Anfield for the foreseeable future.

Sterling’s current deal expires in 2017, but the extension will see him contracted until 2020, although the weekly wages have yet to be disclosed.

The news will delight fans, although as Luis Suarez proved in the summer, a lengthy contract doesn’t necessarily mean a transfer won’t happen.

Sterling’s been holidaying in Jamaica early January, but will be back available for Saturday’s Sunderland clash.
