In news that will likely infuriate Liverpool fans worldwide, the club is apparently lining up a deal to sign Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph, and will sell Lucas to Napoli to fund the transfer, reports the Mirror.

England international Delph is not going to renew his contract that expires in the summer with the Midlands club, and will be available for a cut-price deal this January as a result…

A £7.5m fee for his services has been suggested, and the report suggests we’ll recuperate the money by offloading long-serving Brazilian to Italy, to link back up with Rafa Benitez, the man who brought him to Liverpool in the first place.

Since winning a place back in the Liverpool side, Lucas has been quietly excellent, and selling him this winter would simply make no sense. We’ve won seven of the 11 matches he’s started, and only lost once – while we’ve won two and lost six of the 10 matches he hasn’t started.

That is simply damning evidence that this transfer would weaken us for the second half of the season.

Let’s hope if we are targeting Delph, it’s not at the expense of Lucas.
