We struggled to break down the Trotters in the first leg – though their limited ambition suggested they never had any ambition of securing anything but a replay at Anfield – and will have to hope that we find more space in an away match.

Crystal Palace won’t be an easy prospect though, especially at Selhurst Park, and we’ll have to hope that the Alan Pardew effect has worn off by the weekend of 14th – 15th February.

Regardless, given how close we are to the final of the Capital One Cup, and how well we played in the first leg, tomorrow’s semi-final against Chelsea remains our best hope of a trophy, but the FA Cup isn’t far behind – particularly with the upsets that happened in the fourth round.

With no Manchester City or Chelsea, and Manchester United’s progress not yet secured, there’s a real incentive for us to take our game to Bolton and push for the trophy.
